HMD Global company making Nokia phones has provided Wi-Fi calling support to some of its phones.

Nokia: Telecom company Airtel and Reliance Jio provided a Wi-Fi calling facility some time back. Through this, users will be able to call on any phone or landline through Wi-Fi. HMD Global company, which makes Nokia phones, has provided Wi-Fi calling support to some of its phones. In this case, Nokia smartphone users will be able to use Wi-Fi calling support through Jio and Airtel. The most important thing is that users will also be able to call those people through Wi-Fi, whose feature is not available on their phones. Keep in mind that the Wi-Fi calling feature is not for free calling but to fix call quality.

Wi-Fi calling feature found on these Nokia smartphones: Jio’s service is being offered on Nokia 9 PureView, Nokia 8 Sirocco, Nokia 8.1, Nokia 7.2, Nokia 7.1, Nokia 7 Plus, Nokia 6.2, Nokia 6.1 Plus and Nokia 6.1. At the same time, Airtel’s service is being offered on Nokia 9 PureView, Nokia 8 Sirocco, Nokia 8.1, Nokia 7.1, Nokia 7 Plus, Nokia 6.1 Plus and Nokia 6.1.

How to enable Wi-Fi calling in Nokia smartphones:

    • Firstly, go to your phone’s settings
    • Now, either search for Wi-Fi calling inside the settings or navigate to the option, located under the mobile network tab
    • Enable Wi-Fi calling toggle. Also, ensure the VoLTE option is enabled as well
Now, your phone will automatically switch to VoWiFi mode whenever it is connected to a Wi-Fi network

What is Wi-Fi calling or VoWiFi?

Wi-Fi calling or VoWiFi is a wireless communications technology that allows users to make and receive calls, send and receive SMS on their phone through a Wi-Fi network. The data packets are exchanged over the wireless broadband connection, which means its best use case is when the cellular signals are below par.

VoWiFi was introduced in India last year by Airtel in the Delhi-NCR circle, followed by its rollout in other circles. Reliance Jio followed Airtel’s move to launch Wi-Fi calling throughout the country in a matter of a few days. However, Vodafone Idea has surprisingly lagged behind by not launching the service for its customers.

Calls made via third-party Wi-Fi networks are also supported on both Airtel and Jio. For now, there are no charges for using the Wi-Fi calling facility.
