Redmi 17 5G brings a 7,900mAh battery, Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 and 120Hz display to India at a starting price of Rs 23,999.

Xiaomi has launched the Redmi 17 5G in India, bringing a massive 7,900mAh battery, a 120Hz display and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 chipset to the company’s latest Redmi number-series smartphone.

The Redmi 17 5G is positioned as a budget-focused 5G smartphone with an emphasis on battery life and everyday performance. Interestingly, Xiaomi has skipped the Redmi 16 name and moved directly from the Redmi 15 to the Redmi 17.

Redmi 17 5G Price in India

The Redmi 17 5G is priced at Rs 23,999 for the 6GB RAM and 128GB storage variant in India. The 8GB RAM and 128GB storage model is priced at Rs 26,999.

The first sale is scheduled for September 10, 2026. The smartphone will be available through Amazon, Xiaomi’s online store and select retail outlets.

The Redmi 17 5G will be offered in three colours: Absolutely Black, Endless Blue and Eternal Orange. One of the colour options features a vegan leather back panel.

    Redmi 17 5G Specifications

The biggest highlight of the Redmi 17 5G is its 7,900mAh battery. This is larger than the 7,500mAh battery used in the global version, making the Indian variant particularly focused on long battery endurance.

The battery supports 45W fast charging, while the phone also supports 22.5W wired reverse charging. The latter allows the smartphone to act as a power source for compatible accessories and other devices.

Under the hood, the Redmi 17 5G is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 chipset. The 4nm processor features a maximum clock speed of 2.4GHz and is paired with up to 8GB of RAM in the Indian version. Storage is available in a 128GB configuration.

Redmi claims the chipset can deliver an AnTuTu score of more than 6,60,000, although real-world performance will depend on software optimisation, thermals and usage conditions.

    6.9-Inch 120Hz Display

The Redmi 17 5G features a large 6.9-inch flat display with a 120Hz refresh rate. The higher refresh rate is designed to provide smoother scrolling, animations and supported gaming experiences.

The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 7i. The phone also retains a hole-punch cutout for the front camera.

The large screen combined with the high-capacity battery makes the Redmi 17 5G particularly suited to users who consume a lot of video, social media and other multimedia content on their smartphones.

    50MP Dual Rear Camera

For photography, the Redmi 17 5G gets a 50-megapixel primary rear camera as part of a dual-camera setup.

The smartphone also has an 8-megapixel front camera for selfies and video calls. Redmi is additionally highlighting an RGB camera ring light on the rear, giving the phone a more distinctive visual element.

    HyperOS 3 and Android 16

The Redmi 17 5G runs Android 16 with Xiaomi’s HyperOS 3 software. The software experience includes HyperIsland and other features designed around notifications and multitasking.

The combination of Android 16 and HyperOS 3 gives the Redmi 17 5G a relatively current software platform for a smartphone in this price segment.

Redmi 17 5G vs Redmi 15: What Has Changed?

The Redmi 17 5G represents a substantial focus on battery capacity compared with the previous generation. While the Redmi 15 already targeted buyers looking for long battery life, the new model pushes the capacity to 7,900mAh in India.

The newer Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 platform also brings a more recent Qualcomm chipset and 5G connectivity, while the 120Hz display continues Redmi’s focus on smoother visual performance.

The decision to skip the Redmi 16 branding is another interesting aspect of the launch. Xiaomi has moved directly to the Redmi 17 name for this generation.

Can Redmi 17 5G Challenge Phones Under Rs 25,000?

At Rs 23,999 for the base model, the Redmi 17 5G enters a highly competitive segment of the Indian smartphone market.

Its strongest selling points are clear: a 7,900mAh battery, Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 processor, 120Hz display, 5G connectivity and Android 16. The combination could appeal particularly to consumers who prioritise battery endurance over features such as an AMOLED display or a more advanced camera system.

The 8GB model at Rs 26,999 also gives buyers a higher-memory option without moving too far beyond the Rs 25,000 price segment.

However, the final value proposition will depend on how the Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 performs against competing chipsets and how effectively Redmi’s software and hardware manage the large battery.

Redmi 17 5G India Sale Date

The Redmi 17 5G will go on sale in India from September 10, 2026. Buyers will be able to purchase it through Amazon, Xiaomi’s online channels and retail outlets.

With its unusually large battery and a starting price below Rs 24,000, the Redmi 17 5G gives Xiaomi another strong option in India’s value-focused 5G smartphone segment.
