    Prepaid Tariff Plan

The loss-making telecom service provider is under pressure to clear adjusted gross revenue dues of more than Rs 50,000 crore to comply with a Supreme Court order

At present, the issue of AGR (Adjusted Gross Income) is hot in the telecom market, especially for Vodafone Idea. After the Supreme Court order, Airtel is the only company that has collected only Rs 10,000 crore out of AGR dues. On the other hand, Vodafone Idea has also demanded an increase in call and data rates from 7 to 8 percent. However, the Supreme Court has not yet accepted this demand for Vodafone-Idea. But if the court accepts this demand, then consumers will have to pay more for the prepaid plan than before.

In a letter to the Department of Telecommunications, the company said as they want the minimum price of data should be fixed at Rs. 35 per gigabyte and minimum monthly connection charge at Rs. 50 from April 1, 2020. Current mobile internet prices are in the range of Rs. 4-5 per GB.

Vodafone Idea is owed Rs 53,000 crore

Currently, Vodafone Idea owes Rs 53,000 crore. Out of this outstanding, the company has paid only Rs 3,500 crore. If the company makes data and call rates expensive, consumers will have to pay Rs 32 for 1 GB of data. Apart from this, six paise per minute will have to be paid for calling. However, the company has not yet increased data and call rates.

    Bharti Airtel paid AGR

Airtel had deposited Rs 10,000 crore to pay AGR (adjusted gross income) a few days back. Along with this, the Supreme Court had ordered Vodafone-Idea and Tata to pay AGR dues.

    What is AGR in Telecom?

Telecom companies are required to pay a three percent spectrum fee of AGR and an eight percent license fee to the government. The companies calculated the AGR based on the 2015 decision of the Telecom Tribunal. The tribunal had said at the time that AGRs would be included in the AGR, excluding revenue from non-core sources such as rent, profit from the sale of permanent property, dividend and interest. Whereas the Department of Telecommunications considers rent, profit from the sale of a permanent property and the amount received from the sale of junk in AGR. It is on this basis that they are demanding outstanding fees from companies.
