Apple Watch Series 5 was launched at Apple Event 2019. It comes with two variants Apple Watch Series 5 (GPS) and Apple Watch Series 5 (GPS + Cellular).

Telecom company Vodafone Idea has launched an eSIM-based cellular service in India. With the launch of this service, Apple Watch (GPS + Cellular) users will now be able to connect through the mobile network through Vodafone eSIM. Earlier, only Airtel and Reliance Jio were offering eSIM service. The telecom operator issued a statement saying that users can share the Vodafone Postpaid plan with their Apple Watch (GPS + Cellular). This means that you will be able to use Apple Watch for voice calling and data usage through Vodafone’s network.

Vodafone has currently rolled out this eSIM service for select telecom circle users. Currently, people of Delhi, Mumbai, and Gujarat Telecom circles will get the benefit of this service. Also, this service is currently rolled out only for postpaid users. All smartwatches above Watch Series 3 that come with WatchOS 6.2 or above, will be able to take advantage of this service.

Apple’s latest Watch Series 5 was launched at Apple Event 2019. It comes with two variants Watch Series 5 (GPS) and Watch Series 5 (GPS + Cellular). Talking about its features, it has an Always-On Retina Display which never goes off. In this, you can see much important information including time. You don’t have to tap your smartwatch to see it. Apart from this, location features like built-in-compass are provided. You will be able to use it for emergency service in more than 150 countries without an iPhone. It has new features like watchOS 6 operating systems including bicycle tracking, noise app, and activity trends.

In order to start using Vodafone postpaid services on the compatible Watch, the wearable device needs to be paired with the iPhone device and activated by Vodafone. As this is an extended facility to existing iPhone users, Vodafone Idea does not charge any activation fees. Users won’t need to buy a separate postpaid plan for the Watch, and both the primary iPhone device and the Watch will work on the same connection.

Vodafone Idea notes that international roaming is not available for Apple Watch even though the subscriber’s Vodafone mobile postpaid number and plan may support international roaming. Usage done on the Apple Watch Cellular will be charged as per the bill plan active on the registered mobile number.

    How to activate Vodafone eSIM

    • Open the Watch app on your compatible iPhone
    • Start the pairing process of the Apple Watch and iPhone
    • Sign in with your Apple ID and password
    • Tap on ‘Create a Passcode’ to generate a 4-digit passcode on your Apple Watch
    • Tap ‘Set up Mobile Data’ to share your Postpaid Number and plan with Watch
    • Enter your Vodafone postpaid number and self-care password (if not registered, then tap on register to register the phone number)
    • Tap Confirm once the login is successful. Wait for at least 15 minutes while your Vodafone postpaid number and plan gets shared with the Watch
    • Please wait while your Watch completely syncs with your iPhone
    • Once the setup is complete, green dots will appear on the left corner of the Watch control panel. This is an indication that you are connected to the cellular network. The green dots will only appear if your iPhone is not within the Bluetooth range with your Watch.
