ACT Fibernet Launches Public Wi-Fi Network in Chennai City

ACT Fibernet has launched a network of public Wi-Fi hotspots in Chennai, to transform the city into a connected hub. The inauguration ceremony, attended by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin, marked the beginning of a phased deployment plan, which will see over 500 Wi-Fi hotspots strategically placed at key locations in the initial stage, expanding to 3000 hotspots across Chennai. Both ACT Fibernet customers and non-customers can enjoy free Wi-Fi access for up to 45 minutes, providing speeds of up to 20 Mbps for non-customers and subscribed speeds for ACT Fibernet subscribers. The initiative aligns with the vision of creating a digitally empowered Tamil Nadu and has received positive remarks from key stakeholders, including the Chief Minister and ACT Fibernet CEO Bala Malladi. ACT Fibernet is committed to building and maintaining a robust digital infrastructure to foster a more connected and empowered future for Chennai residents.

Chennai, India – In a significant stride towards transforming Chennai into a connected city, ACT Fibernet, India’s leading fiber-focused broadband service provider, has launched a network of public Wi-Fi hotspots across key locations in the city. The inauguration ceremony, graced by the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, M K Stalin, and senior government officials, took place at the Chennai Trade Centre, Nandambakkam.

The initiative aims to bridge the digital divide, providing residents with seamless and high-speed internet access. ACT Fibernet plans to deploy over 500 Wi-Fi hotspots in the initial phase, strategically placed at prominent locations such as Marina Beach, Besant Nagar Beach, bus stops, parks, and bus terminus. The network is expected to grow to 3000 hotspots, ensuring extensive coverage and accessibility across the city.

One of the standout features of this initiative is that both ACT Fibernet customers and non-customers can enjoy free Wi-Fi access for up to 45 minutes. Non-customers will experience speeds of up to 20 Mbps, while ACT Fibernet subscribers will benefit from the service at their subscribed speeds.

Commenting on the project, M K Stalin, Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, stated, “This project aligns perfectly with our vision of creating a digitally empowered Tamil Nadu, providing equal access to information and opportunities for all citizens.”

Bala Malladi, Chief Executive Officer of ACT Fibernet, expressed enthusiasm about the public Wi-Fi project, describing it as a testament to the company’s commitment to bridging the digital divide. “This initiative will significantly enhance the lives of residents across Chennai by providing access to the transformative power of the Internet,” Malladi added.

Emphasizing their commitment to building and maintaining a robust digital infrastructure, ACT Fibernet aims to foster a more connected and empowered future for all residents of Chennai. The public Wi-Fi project is a crucial step towards creating a smarter and more digitally inclusive city, enhancing the lives of citizens and ensuring equal access to information and opportunities.
