Jio Platforms IPO Valuation Reportedly at US$102–103 Billion

Reuters’ latest analysis puts Jio Platforms’ potential IPO equity valuation at US$102–103 billion, below the US$131 billion target cited in its June draft offer papers.

Reuters’ latest analysis puts Jio Platforms’ potential IPO equity valuation at around US$102–103 billion, below the roughly US$131 billion valuation targeted when the company filed its draft offer papers in June. The reported figure is based on a media-reported share price range, not a final IPO price, and reflects investor scrutiny of Jio’s earnings mix, growth prospects and market conditions.

Jio Platforms’ proposed stock market listing is emerging as a major test of investor appetite for India’s telecom and digital services businesses. A Reuters Breakingviews analysis published on 12 October 2026 said the company may secure a valuation just above US$100 billion as geopolitical concerns weigh on markets and investor enthusiasm for artificial intelligence becomes more cautious.

The valuation discussion comes ahead of the planned public issue by the Reliance Industries subsidiary. Reuters reported on 9 October that bankers were discussing a price range of Rs 1,065 to Rs 1,119 per share, which would imply an equity valuation of approximately Rs 9.8 lakh crore to Rs 10.3 lakh crore, or about US$102–103 billion.

These figures remain reported estimates until the company finalises and announces the offer price. They should not be treated as a confirmed listing valuation or the price at which Jio Platforms shares will trade after listing.

Why the reported valuation is lower than earlier expectations

Jio Platforms’ June draft offer documents targeted a valuation of around US$131 billion, according to Reuters’ latest analysis. The newly reported US$102–103 billion range would therefore represent a meaningful reduction from that earlier level, although the final comparison will depend on the eventual offer price and the valuation measure being used.

Reuters Breakingviews linked the valuation pressure to a difficult market environment, including concerns arising from geopolitical tensions and a reassessment of the enthusiasm surrounding AI-related businesses. The analysis also raised questions about how investors should value Jio’s broader digital services and platforms alongside its established telecom operations.

Jio Platforms is more than a mobile operator. Its business includes digital connectivity through Reliance Jio Infocomm, fixed broadband, enterprise services and digital platforms. The company’s challenge in the IPO is to demonstrate how these businesses can generate sustainable earnings and how much future growth investors should factor into the share price.

A lower valuation than earlier expectations does not automatically mean that the business has deteriorated by the same proportion. Valuation estimates can change with market sentiment, pricing assumptions, expected earnings and the premium investors are prepared to pay for future growth.

Equity valuation is not the same as enterprise valuation

Investors comparing Jio’s reported valuation with earlier estimates should first establish which measure is being discussed. Equity valuation represents the market value of the company’s shares. Enterprise value, by contrast, generally adds net debt to equity value, giving investors a broader view of the value of the operating business and how it is financed.

This distinction matters for a company whose telecom subsidiary has borrowings. Two valuations can look different simply because one refers to equity value and another to enterprise value, even when they are based on the same underlying business. The US$102–103 billion figure cited in the latest Reuters reporting is an implied equity valuation based on the reported share price range.

The issue size is a separate figure. It refers to the value of shares being offered to investors in the IPO, rather than the value of the entire company. A company can be valued at more than US$100 billion while raising only a fraction of that amount through a public issue.

What Jio’s IPO documents say about the offer

Jio Platforms’ official IPO page makes its draft offer documents available to investors. The draft prospectus dated June 2026 describes a fresh issue of up to 270 million equity shares, with no offer-for-sale component specified in the draft. The final number of shares, issue price and total proceeds depend on the completed offer terms.

The draft prospectus also states that net proceeds are proposed to be used to prepay or repay certain outstanding borrowings of Reliance Jio Infocomm, Jio Platforms’ material subsidiary. Net proceeds are the amount remaining after issue-related expenses, so they are not identical to the headline gross issue size.

Reuters reported on 5 October that the IPO was planned to open on 21 October, with listing expected on 28 October. Those dates have been reported by the news agency but should still be checked against the final issue announcement and exchange notices before investors rely on them.

What the valuation could mean for Reliance and telecom investors

The IPO could give public-market investors a more direct way to value Jio Platforms’ digital connectivity and services business. It may also provide a clearer reference point for assessing Reliance Industries’ holdings in Jio, although the impact on Reliance shares will depend on the final valuation, the offer structure and how the market interprets the listing.

The valuation will also draw comparisons with Bharti Airtel, but a direct comparison requires more than headline company values. Investors need to account for differences in business mix, debt, cash flows, earnings growth and the contribution of non-telecom operations.

For prospective investors, the central question is not simply whether Jio Platforms is worth US$103 billion or US$131 billion. It is whether the final offer price is justified by the company’s earnings, future cash generation, capital requirements and the risks disclosed in its prospectus. The final offer documents and price band will be more important for that assessment than preliminary valuation estimates or analyst commentary.
