Xiaomi has released the MIUI 11 closed beta for select phones right now, with the open beta going live on September 27
Currently, most of the Xiaomi phones in the hands of the users have been running on the MIUI 10. However, there has been a long wait for the release of the MIUI 11 by the users. It was this time last year that we saw the rollout of the MIUI 10, and before the close of the year, we are seeing the rollout of the MIUI 11. Xiaomi has officially unveiled the MIUI and revealed the features of this new skin, which include dynamic font scaling and dynamic effects.
Along with this, the Chinese smartphone manufacturer has put out the list of devices which are set to receive MIUI 11. The early testers have already received the closed beta build of the MIUI 11 but the open beta will be rolled out on September 27 to 17 devices in China. Some of the phones which will be the early receivers of the MIUI 11 include the Redmi K20 Pro, Redmi K20, Redmi Note 7, Mi 9, Mi 9 SE, and Mi CC9.
MIUI 11 Features, New Quirks and Notable Changes
One of the most noteworthy changes on the MIUI 11 as compared to the MIUI is about the fonts. The MIUI 11 comes with a new ‘Milan Pro’ font, and it also comes with dynamic font scaling. Another change in MIUI 11 includes dynamic sound effects that resemble nature sound effects.
There are also new apps bundled from the get-go which include Mi Work and Mi Go. Using the Mi Work, the users can do cross-platform file sharing and send large documents between multiple devices, smart screencast, and wireless printing. Whereas, the Mi Go app is a smart travel assistant which brings on a new “extreme power saving mode.” Xiaomi has claimed that this app will be able to provide up to 24 hours standby time on only 5% of battery.
The lock screen on the MIUI 11 will also be customisable by the users, and there is a new kaleidoscope effect with new pattern that the users can select as their lock screen. There is also a breathing light effect that offers a breathe-like experience on the display if the users select it.
Some more additions as detailed by Xiaomi include a new document viewer, a new reminder feature, upgraded kids mode. A highly demanded feature has been screen time management similar to Digital Wellbeing which Xiaomi has finally brought to MIUI 11. The MIUI 11 will also give the users early earthquake warning through a prompt pop up window
Devices Receiving MIUI 11
As for the rollout of the MIUI 11, the users who sign up through WeChat will be able to access the closed beta. Whereas, the open beta release will happen on September 27. Xiaomi has also put out a QR code on its website to let the users sign up for the closed beta. In mid October, the stable version will be rolled out to Mi 9, Mi 9 Transparent Edition, Mi 9 SE, Mi Mix 3, Mi Mix 2S, Mi 8, Mi 8 Youth Edition, Mi 8 Explorer Edition, Mi 8 Screen Fingerprint Edition, Mi 8 SE, Mi Max 3, Redmi K20 Pro, Redmi K20 Pro Premium Edition, Redmi K20, Redmi Note 7, Redmi Note 7 Pro, and Redmi 7.
In late October, Mi 9 Pro 5G, Mi CC9, Mi CC9 Meitu Custom Edition, Mi CC9e, Mi Mix 2, Mi Note 3, Mi 6, Mi 6X, Redmi 7A, Redmi 6 Pro, Redmi Note 5, Redmi 6A, Redmi 6, and Redmi S2 will receive the update. Currently, the global ROM of MIUI 11 is unheard of yet, and we will know in the days to come when the ROM debuts in India.
