WhatsApp has introduced a very special feature for its desktop users, with the help of which video and audio calls can now be enjoyed. This feature was till now only available for smartphone users.

Instant messaging app Whatsapp has many useful and special features for users. The company also continues to offer updates and features on the day to provide a better experience to the users. This time the company has introduced a new calling feature keeping in mind the desktop users, with the help of which users will now be able to take advantage of Whatsapp calling from desktop too. However, according to the report, this feature has been made available only for a few users at the moment.

Video and audio calling has become a popular feature among people worldwide to stay connected to each other due to the COVID 19 pandemic. Audio and video calling became very popular among users, but this feature was only available in Whatsapp’s mobile app. Zoom and Google Meet were being used for calling from desktop. But now WhatsApp has also introduced desktop calling feature which will give a tough competition to Zoom and Google Meet.

The new feature of Whatsapp has been given by WABetaInfo, which states that WhatsApp has rolled out the video and audio calling feature for desktop. After which some users have also shared its screenshots. In which audio and video calling feature is being shown on the desktop version of Whatsapp. Which is present near the search feature in desktop version.

However, this feature has been rolled out in the beta version and only a few users will be able to take advantage of it. Let us know that the company has already confirmed that in the year 2021, the facility of desktop calling feature will be made available to the users. However, it is not yet clear how long this feature will roll out for all users.

Most recently, a user on Twitter shared the fact that his WhatsApp Desktop app is now showing voice and video calling buttons. The icons for voice and video calling are the same as the ones available on WhatsApp’s Android and iOS app. WhatsApp updates-tracker WABetaInfo had first spotted beta version of voice and video calling back in December. The portal had also said that a separate window would pop up whenever users get an incoming call. The Facebook-owned may also extend the calling features on group chats for the Desktop and Web clients. Currently, stable channels support up to eight participants during a single group call.

Support for voice and video calls on the WhatsApp web has been a much-awaited feature from users around the world. The company would hope to take on the likes of Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and Google Meet that saw a surge in userbase last year, owing to the coronavirus pandemic. However, the video and voice calling on WhatsApp work quite differently as users here are required to be on the platform to enjoy the feature, unlike the other video conferencing platforms, that allow participants to join without signing up. It will be interesting to see how Facebook will promote the calling feature as the company is currently taking heat from users over its new updated privacy policy.
