    Reliance Jio Becomes Number -1, Added 91 Lakh New Customers In October: TRAI Report

    According to the Telecom Subscription Data as on October 31, 2019 press release by TRAI, Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Jio has added 9.1 million new users onboard

    Reliance Jio customers added the most customers in October. According to the information published on the website of Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), Reliance Jio added 9.1 million new customers in October. It is clear from this that despite increasing the IUC charge, customers have bought the sim of Reliance Jio. The company had announced a charge of 6 paise from users for making calls on other networks.

    It was told that the number of telephone subscribers in India increased from 1,195.24 million at the end of Sep-19 to 1,204.85 million at the end of Oct-19, thereby showing a monthly growth rate of 0.80%. Urban telephone subscription increased from 677.95 million at the end of Sep-19 to 681.69 million at the end of Oct-19, and the rural subscription also increased from 517.29 million to 523.16 million during the same period. The monthly growth rates of urban and rural subscriptions were 0.55% and 1.14% respectively during the month of Oct-19.

    Total wireless subscribers (2G, 3G & 4G) increased from 1,173.75 million at the end of Sep-19 to 1,183.40 million at the end of Oct-19, thereby registering a monthly growth rate of 0.82%. Wireless subscription in urban areas increased from 659.18 million at the end of Sep-19 to 662.92 million at the end of Oct-19, and wireless subscription in rural areas also increased from 514.56 million at the end of Sep-19 to 520.48 million at the end of Oct-19. Monthly growth rates of urban and rural wireless subscriptions were 0.57% and 1.15% respectively.

    As on October 31, 2019, the private telecom service providers held 89.80% market share of the wireless subscribers whereas BSNL and MTNL, the two PSU access service providers, had a market share of only 10.20%.

    The TRAI data also reveals that Vodafone Idea Limited is still the leading telecom operator in the country with a market share of 31.49%. Reliance Jio is said to have a market share of 30.79%, more than that of Airtel’s 27.52% share. At the end of October 2019, Vodafone Idea officially confirmed a subscriber base number of 372.7 million, followed by Reliance Jio with 364.3 million and Bharti Airtel with 325.6 million subscriber base.

    Bharti Airtel has the maximum proportion (95.05%) of its active wireless subscribers (VLR) as against its total wireless subscribers (HLR) on the date of peak VLR in the month of Oct-19 and MTNL has the minimum proportion of VLR (27.82%) of its HLR during the same period.

    On October 1, Reliance Jio announced to give its feature phone for Rs 699. It was told that Reliance Jio has become the number one company in 5 circles. In Andhra Pradesh, Kolkata, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab and Rajasthan circles, the company’s customers are the most connected.

    Reliance Jio has brought the 2020 Happy New Year Offer for the customers on the occasion of the New Year. Under this offer, users will be able to avail free unlimited service for the whole year by recharging only once. In Jio’s ‘2020 Happy New Year Offer’ offer, the user will get unlimited services for one year after recharging Rs 2020. The validity of this offer is 365 days i.e. one year.
