OnePlus 7T borrows two major features from the OnePlus 7 Pro and takes the company’s affordable flagship legacy forward
OnePlus 7T just went official in the Indian market and the phone borrows several major features from the OnePlus 7 Pro that was launched earlier this year. The OnePlus 7T has a 90Hz screen and it’s a lot cheaper than the launch price of OnePlus 7 Pro. Furthermore, the OnePlus 7T get the almost similar camera setup as the OnePlus 7 Pro- a 48MP primary sensor, 12MP sensor with a telephoto lens and a 16MP ultra-wide-angle sensor.
On the front, the OnePlus 7T has the same 16MP selfie shooter as the OnePlus 7, which is disappointing to see as the company has been using the same setup for ages now. The OnePlus 7T feels a lot like the OnePlus 7, but there are some improvements in the design aspect as well, which we have detailed below. The major question right now is: Will the OnePlus 7T live up to the Pro standards even though we have the Pro version of OnePlus 7T launching on October 10?
OnePlus 7T Carries Two Major Features from OnePlus 7 Pro
The OnePlus 7T sports a 6.55-inch Full HD+ Super AMOLED display, similar to the OnePlus 7, but this time around, the company has added 90Hz refresh rate. To recall, the OnePlus 7 Pro was the first phone in the industry to feature a 90Hz OLED panel and the same tech has now made its way to the OnePlus 7T. Also, the display of the OnePlus 7T is HDR 10+ ready, says the company.
Next up, the OnePlus 7T sports a triple rear camera setup- again it’s the same camera setup from the OnePlus 7 Pro, albeit with one change. To recall, the OnePlus 7 arrived with a dual-camera setup of 48MP+5MP, but the 7T features three cameras of 48MP+16MP+12MP. The 48MP sensor is the same Sony IMX586 one we saw on several other phones released this year, whereas the 16MP sensor feature ultra-wide-angle lens, and lastly, the 12MP sensor has a telephoto lens with 2X optical zoom functionality. To recall, the OnePlus 7 featured an 8MP telephoto lens, so the 12MP one comes as an upgrade.
The OnePlus 7T comes in two color options- Glacier Blue and Froster Silver. The Glacier Blue color variant looks pretty identical to the Nebula Blue color variant of the OnePlus 7 Pro. Also, OnePlus confirmed that the 7T has the same vibration motor as the OnePlus 7 Pro and even the stereo speaker setup has been upgraded.
OnePlus 7T: A Not-So Major Upgrade Over in Terms of Design
While OnePlus chose to use two major features of OnePlus 7 Pro on the OnePlus 7T, it did not bring the same full-screen design to the newly launched smartphone. The OnePlus 7T features a teardrop notch display which we have seen on the last two affordable OnePlus flagships. The OnePlus 6T was the first phone from OnePlus to feature a teardrop notch which was followed by the OnePlus 7, and now, the OnePlus 7T has the same.
However, OnePlus has managed to reduce the chin and notch size by at least 33%, so the bezels are extremely thin this time around. As for the dimensions, the phone measures 8.1mm in thickness and weighs 190 grams, thanks to the glass back.
Android 10, 3800mAh Battery are Other Two Key Features of OnePlus 7T
Other specifications of the OnePlus 7T include 3800mAh battery which is a 100mAh bigger one compared to the OnePlus 7 and 200mAh smaller one compared to the OnePlus 7 Pro. Also, the 7T boots Android 10 out of the box with the brand new design introduced with OxygenOS 10.0.
The phone sports an in-display fingerprint scanner which is now said to be even faster than the ones present on the OnePlus 7 series. Lastly, the OnePlus 7T features Warp Charge 30T which will charge the phone significantly faster than the 20W charging tech we got on the OnePlus 7. WarpCharge 30T is said to offer 38% faster-charging speeds compared to the WarpCharge 30 we get on the OnePlus 7 Pro.
Underneath the phone, we now have the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855+ chipset, clubbed with 8GB of RAM and up to 256GB of internal storage. There’s no microSD card slot and 3.5mm headphone jack as usual.
OnePlus 7T India Pricing and Official Availability
The OnePlus 7T comes in two variants- 8GB+128GB and 8GB+256GB with the prices being Rs 37,999 and Rs 39,999. The smartphone will be available for purchase during the Amazon Great Indian Festival sale which will kickstart on September 29 in India. OnePlus officially teased the 7T Pro will make its global debut in October in London and it will reach the Indian market later this year.
On the whole, the OnePlus 7T is a major upgrade over the OnePlus 7 and it’s not just the usual ‘T’ upgrade which the company does every year. Also, with the OnePlus 7T starting at Rs 37,999, the OnePlus 7 Pro will be a tough sell for the brand. During the Amazon Great Indian Festival sale, the OnePlus 7 Pro will be available starting at Rs 44,999, however, it’s still on the higher side.
