Akash Ambani Explains Why Customer Value Is Central to Jio’s Growth

Ahead of Jio Platforms’ IPO, Akash Ambani outlines how AI services, home broadband and digital applications could help the company expand beyond mobile connectivity.

Reliance Jio is looking to build its next phase of growth around services that deliver greater value to customers, with technology and innovation playing a central role in its strategy. Speaking at Jio Platforms’ IPO media interaction on 15 October 2026, Akash Ambani said the company wants to use its technology capabilities to improve the everyday lives of Indian consumers.

Ambani emphasised that innovation should not be pursued simply for its own sake. Instead, Jio intends to develop products and services that address customer needs, supported by its connectivity infrastructure and in-house technology capabilities.

The strategy comes as Jio Platforms prepares for its initial public offering (IPO). While connectivity remains the foundation of its business, the company is looking to expand opportunities across artificial intelligence (AI), home broadband, digital entertainment, applications and enterprise technology.

Akash Ambani Says Customer Value Will Drive Jio’s Growth

At the IPO media interaction, Ambani reiterated that customers remain central to Jio’s business strategy. He highlighted the company’s focus on delivering affordable, high-quality digital services while developing technology that can make a practical difference to consumers.

Jio’s approach is increasingly focused on what it can offer beyond providing access to the internet. The company wants to use its existing network, digital platforms and technology stack to introduce services that help customers communicate, access information and use digital applications more effectively.

According to Ambani, the customer should be the biggest beneficiary of Jio’s technology investments. This approach places customer experience and affordability alongside innovation as the company looks for new areas of growth.

Jio Plans to Expand AI-Powered Voice Services

Artificial intelligence is emerging as one of the areas where Jio intends to extend its services beyond traditional telecom offerings. At the media interaction, Ambani discussed AI-powered capabilities such as call summarisation and transcription across 12 Indian languages.

These features could help users review conversations, retrieve important information and understand discussions without having to listen to an entire recording again. Support for multiple Indian languages could also make AI tools more accessible to users who are not comfortable relying exclusively on English-language services.

Jio’s wider opportunity lies in bringing such features to its large customer base through its existing digital ecosystem. However, the availability of individual AI services will depend on their rollout, supported devices and applicable service conditions.

Home Broadband and Digital Entertainment Remain Important

Jio is also looking beyond mobile connectivity to expand its presence in connected homes. Home broadband, television and digital entertainment applications give the company additional ways to serve customers who increasingly use internet-connected devices for work, education and leisure.

By combining connectivity with content and digital applications, Jio can offer services that address multiple household needs. This also gives the company opportunities to build stronger relationships with customers who use more than one of its products.

Home broadband is particularly relevant to this strategy because it allows Jio to extend its network-based services into households. The company can use its connectivity infrastructure as a foundation for entertainment, digital applications and other services that depend on reliable internet access.

Jio Wants to Build Technology Rather Than Just Distribute It

Another important element of Jio’s strategy is the development of its own technology capabilities. Ambani said the company has increasingly focused on building an in-house, end-to-end technology stack, using Indian talent and developing solutions that can be deployed across its operations.

This approach could give Jio greater control over the technologies underpinning its network and digital services. It also creates opportunities to offer technology solutions to other telecom operators rather than limiting its business to the Indian consumer market.

At the IPO interaction, Ambani discussed the potential for Jio to work with telecom operators in other markets through partnerships and managed services. The strategy would allow the company to use technology developed and tested in India to pursue international opportunities without necessarily building an entirely new network in every country.

For Jio, this represents a potential extension of its existing capabilities into a broader technology business. The commercial opportunity will depend on customer demand, partnerships and the company’s ability to translate its technology investments into sustainable revenue.

Jio’s Customer Strategy Comes Ahead of Its IPO

The focus on customer value comes as Jio Platforms prepares to enter the public markets. The company is scheduled to open its IPO for subscription on 21 October 2026, with the issue closing on 23 October. The price band has been set at Rs 1,065 to Rs 1,119 per share.

Jio’s scale provides a significant foundation for its next phase of growth. Reuters reported that the company had approximately 533 million subscribers and handled nearly 60% of India’s data traffic, highlighting its position in the country’s telecommunications market.

However, sustaining growth will require more than expanding connectivity alone. AI services, home broadband, digital applications and enterprise technology could provide additional opportunities to serve existing customers and develop new revenue streams.

For Jio, the central challenge will be converting its large user base and technology investments into services that customers find useful and are willing to use. Ambani’s remarks suggest that the company wants customer value, affordability and practical innovation to remain central to that effort.
