Taking a look at the National Tariff Order (NTO 2.0) issued by TRAI last month, the regulator had asked broadcasters to release the new price of channels by 30 January 2020.

TRAI announced the new National Tariff Order (NTO 2.0) last month for DTH & Cable TV operators. This new tariff order will be implemented on 1 March 2020. TRAI asked broadcasters to announce the new price of the channels on 15 January. However, after this, broadcasters also appealed to the court for this decision of TRAI, which was deferred until 12 February by the court. DTH service providers Tata Sky, Airtel Digital TV, Dish TV, and Sun Direct can then launch their new plans.

Taking a look at the National Tariff Order (NTO 2.0) issued by TRAI last month, the regulator asked broadcasters to release the new price of channels by 30 January 2020, which is to be implemented from 1 March 2020.

    National Tariff Order (NTO 2.0)

Let us tell you that the National Tariff Order (NTO 1.0) was implemented on 1 April 2019 last year. Which was implemented with a delay of four months instead of 1 December 2018. A new national tariff order may also be similarly delayed. In a tariff order issued by the regulator on 1 January, broadcasters were asked to declare new rates of channels by 15 January 2020, which cannot be declared till 12 February 2020 due to the matter being stuck in court at present.

In the National Tariff Order (NTO 2.0), broadcasters were ordered to increase the monthly fare for any individual channel to a maximum of Rs 12 instead of Rs 19. For the implementation of this new tariff order, users will have to pay a maximum of Rs 12 for any channel. Due to which the monthly rent of the users will be reduced. At the same time, users can now be shown 200 free-to-air channels instead of 100 for a monthly charge of minimum Rs 130 (without tax).

According to the new tariff order, broadcasters will now have to announce new rates for their bouquet packages and channels. After which service providers Airtel, Dish TV, Tata Sky can announce their new plans, which can be implemented from 1 March 2020.
