iPhone Duo to Get Apple Pencil Support With iOS 27.2

Apple Pencil support is reportedly working on the iPhone Duo with the iOS 27.2 release candidate, ahead of the expected public update.

Apple’s first foldable smartphone, the iPhone Duo, is expected to gain Apple Pencil support with the upcoming iOS 27.2 update. The feature has reportedly been enabled in the operating system’s release candidate, suggesting that buyers may not have to wait long to use a stylus with the foldable iPhone.

Creative Strategies analyst Max Weinbach reported on 21 October that Apple Pencil support was working on his iPhone Duo after installing the iOS 27.2 release candidate. Apple had previously said that stylus support would arrive later in 2026, but it had not specifically identified iOS 27.2 as the enabling update.

Apple Pencil Support Reportedly Works in iOS 27.2 RC

The iOS 27.2 release candidate was made available to developers on 19 October. Weinbach’s report indicates that the Apple Pencil feature is already functional in this pre-release software.

The release candidate is a near-final version used for testing before a software update becomes publicly available. However, Apple has not separately confirmed the feature’s availability in the final public release of iOS 27.2.

The development is significant because Apple had initially described Apple Pencil support as a feature arriving later in the year. Its reported appearance in the release candidate suggests that the rollout could happen sooner than some users expected.

Only Apple Pencil With USB-C Is Supported

According to reports, the iPhone Duo will support the Apple Pencil with USB-C. The stylus can be used for drawing, writing notes, annotating documents and scrolling in supported applications.

The feature is reported to work on both the foldable phone’s inner display and its outer screen. This could make the larger internal display particularly useful for handwritten notes, document review and sketching.

Owners of other Apple Pencil models should not assume they will work with the iPhone Duo. The reported compatibility is specifically for the USB-C version.

iPhone Duo Will Run iOS 27.1 at Launch

Apple’s developer website states that the iPhone Duo will run iOS 27.1 when it becomes available on 23 October 2026. Users will therefore need the relevant software update to access the reported Apple Pencil functionality.

The public release date for iOS 27.2 has not been officially confirmed. Reports expect it to arrive shortly after the phone’s launch, but users should wait for Apple’s final release announcement before relying on a specific date.

Until then, Apple Pencil support in iOS 27.2 should be understood as a feature observed in pre-release software rather than one confirmed for every retail device out of the box.

What Apple Pencil Support Means for the Foldable iPhone

Stylus support could make the iPhone Duo more useful for people who regularly take notes, mark up documents or sketch ideas on a mobile device. The larger inner screen offers more room for these tasks than a conventional smartphone display.

It could also strengthen the foldable iPhone’s position as a productivity device, although the practical experience will depend on application compatibility and how developers optimise their software for the device.

For prospective buyers, the key points are the supported Apple Pencil model and the software requirement. More details should become clear when Apple releases iOS 27.2 publicly and publishes its final release information.
