Consumers who want to save on their smartphone purchases can opt for the more budget-friendly iPhone 13 and iPhone 14, as these models are expected to get significant price cuts during the upcoming Dussehra and Diwali festive sales.

Apple is producing the latest iPhone 15, which is positioned as the most budget-friendly model in the iPhone 15 series in India. Indian customers can expect to receive a ‘Made in India’ iPhone 15 when they place their orders once pre-orders begin on September 15, 2023. However, despite local assembly efforts, the price remains unchanged for Indian customers. This is primarily due to Apple’s assembly process within India, which involves assembling the device from imported components rather than completely manufacturing it within the country.

Apple is set to introduce a locally assembled iPhone 15 Plus next month, which is mainly differentiated with a larger screen and better battery. The base model of the iPhone 15, starting at Rs 79,900 for 128GB storage, falls in the same price bracket as its predecessors, the iPhone 13 and iPhone 14.

For consumers seeking a more budget-friendly option, the iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 are set to receive substantial price cuts during the upcoming festive sales around Dussehra and Diwali. It is worth noting that Apple has not yet started local production of its “Pro” iPhone models, despite it having been assembling iPhones in India for years.

Looking to the future, Apple is actively strategizing to shift a large portion of its production capacity from China to India and Vietnam. This strategic shift is driven, in part, by concerns related to political tensions, as Apple seeks to reduce its dependence on China. The company has already taken steps to divest from Chinese manufacturing and increase its investment in the Indian market.

The key question remains: When will Apple start local sourcing of its components, thereby potentially reducing prices for the Indian market? Assembly of the iPhone 15 is currently taking place at Apple’s Foxconn plant in India, marking the first instance where iPhones are being assembled in the country right from the launch stage.

Nonetheless, due to limited production capacity in India, a portion of iPhone 15 units will continue to be imported from China for sale in the Indian market.
