    Realme 5 Pro

Realme 5 Pro with its 48MP quad camera and crystal design competes against the Vivo Z1 Pro in the sub-Rs 15,000 segments.

Realme 5 Pro offers a 48MP quad-camera setup, and the Vivo Z1 Pro comes with a 32MP selfie camera.

Realme 5 Pro has been launched in India under Rs 15,000, which is a pretty interesting and aggressive segment. The sub-Rs-15,000 price tier sees a lot of extremely impressive and disruptive phones from the likes of Realme, Xiaomi and Vivo. We recently compared the Realme 5 Pro with the Mi A3 and with Realme’s own Realme 3 Pro considering the phone was launched less than six months ago. Today, we’re looking at how the Realme 5 Pro fares against the Vivo Z1 Pro.

The Vivo Z1 Pro is a very attractive smartphone given its specs and pricing under Rs 15,000. It touts a large hole-punch display, a Snapdragon 712 SoC and a 5,000mAh battery, among other things. But the Realme 5 Pro looks attractive as well with its Crystal design, quad cameras and the fact that it is powered by a Snapdragon 712 chip as well.

We take a look at how the two phones compare on paper to help you decide whether you should go for the Realme 5 Pro or the Vivo Z1 Pro.

Realme 5 Pro vs Vivo Z1 Pro: Price in India and availability

Realme 5 Pro starts at Rs 13,999. This is for the base model that comes with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. The 6GB + 64GB variant is priced at Rs 14,999 while the 8GB + 128GB option costs Rs 16,999. Realme 5 Pro will go on sale for the first time on Wednesday, September 4 on Flipkart and Realme.com.

The Vivo Z1 Pro comes with a starting price of Rs 14,990 for the 4GB + 64GB storage option. It is also available in 6GB + 64GB and 6GB + 128GB variants that are priced at Rs 16,990 and Rs 18,990, respectively. Vivo Z1 Pro was initially only available through flash sales, but can now be bought 24×7 via Flipkart and Vivo’s online store.

Realme 5 Pro vs Vivo Z1 Pro: Design and Display

The Realme 5 Pro and Vivo Z1 Pro offer distinct designs, but they both look attractive in their own ways. The Realme 5 Pro brings a dewdrop display upfront and a curved plastic panel on the back in a new Crystal design. The diamond-cut design on the back looks appealing in Crystal Green and Sparkling Blue colours.

Realme 5 Pro sports a 6.3-inch FHD+ LCD display with a waterdrop notch. It comes with Widevine L1 support, which allows you to stream content in true HD resolution.

    Realme 5 Pro

The Vivo Z1 Pro also comes with a plastic rear panel. It’s a glossy cover that comes in Sonic Blue, Sonic Black, and Mirror Black colour options. The blue colour option, in particular, offers a smooth blue and green gradient finish that looks quite appealing.

Compared to the Realme 5 Pro, the Vivo Z1 Pro offers a bigger display. It gets a 6.53-inch FHD+ LCD display. Instead of a waterdrop notch, the smartphone gets a punch-hole cutout on the top left corner to house a selfie camera. The Z1 Pro’s big screen and unobtrusive hole-punch cutout make it a great option to watch videos or play games on.

Realme 5 Pro vs Vivo Z1 Pro: Hardware and Software

One thing common between the two phones is the processor. The Realme 5 Pro and Vivo Z1 Pro are both powered by a 2.3GHz Snapdragon 712 chipset, which means both the smartphones should offer similar performances when it comes to day-to-day usage. The SD712 SoC comes with Adreno 616 GPU which means the two phones should also run graphic intensive games like PUBG and Asphalt 9 smoothly.

A lot of what makes the performance of a phone is also the software. The Realme 5 Pro ships with ColorOS 6 based on Android 9 Pie and the Z1 Pro runs on FunTouch OS 9.0. Both custom software versions come with their own set of bloatware and heavy customisations that require some time to get used to.

    Realme 5 Pro

The Realme 5 Pro seems to get an edge over the Vivo Z1 Pro in the camera department. As of now, the Realme 5 Pro is the only phone to offer a 48MP quad-camera system under Rs 15,000. The smartphone offers a high-resolution 48-megapixel Sony IMX586 primary sensor, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera and two 2-megapixel sensors where one is for macros and the other for depth. The Realme 5 Pro camera supports EIS as well as Nightscape, Chroma Boost and HDR.

Meanwhile, the Vivo Z1 Pro gets a triple camera setup with a 16-megapixel primary sensor, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera and a 2-megapixel depth sensor. The Z1 Pro also gets a dedicated night mode and the cameras are decent, but the Realme 5 Pro does look better on paper. When it comes to the selfie camera, however, the Z1 Pro’s 32MP front-facing camera sensor looks much better than the 16MP selfie snapper on the Realme phone.

The Realme 5 Pro packs a 4,035mAh capacity and supports VOOC 3.0 fast charging over Type-C port. The battery is good enough to last a full day, but if you’re looking for a really long-lasting smartphone then you should look towards the Z1 Pro. The Vivo smartphone packs a 5,000mAh battery and supports 18W fast charging over a micro USB port.

Based on what the two phones offer, there are some areas where the Realme 5 Pro looks more appealing such as its 48MP quad-camera system and crystal design. The Vivo Z1 Pro, on the other hand, gets a bigger battery and a high-resolution selfie camera. These are a few things to keep in mind before you decide to buy one.
