Vodafone Idea Received Extended Time by TRAI to Respond Show Cause Notice

On behalf of Telecom Regulatory Trai, Vodafone Idea has been given two additional time to file a reply. TRAI first gave a deadline of 31 August 2020 for filing the reply.

Telecom Regulatory Authority (“TRAI“) had issued a “show cause notice” against Vodafone-Idea for misleading priority RedX tariff plan. In this case, Vodafone-Idea was to file a reply by 31 August. But now TRAI has given extra time to Vodafone-Idea to file a reply in this matter. In such a situation, now Vodafone-Idea will have to file a reply before TRAI by 8 September 2020. Explain that extra time was demanded from TRAI on behalf of Vodafone-Idea, which has been approved by TRAI.

Time limit has been extended twice by TRAI

On behalf of TRAI, Vodafone Idea has been given extra time twice to file a reply. TRAI first gave a deadline of 31 August 2020 for filing the reply, which was later extended to 4 September 2020. But now TRAI has extended this deadline till 8 September 2020 once again at the request of Vodafone-idea. According to Vodafone-Idea, TRAI should have got a minimum of 15 days to file a 17-page “show cause notice” reply. Please tell that TRAI has issued a notice to Vodafone Idea on 25 August.

    Vodafone Idea Matter

The Telecom Regulatory Authority (TRAI) has issued notice to the telecom company Vodafone Idea in violation of regulatory regulations. TRAI’s notice has asked why its RedX tariff plan should not be discontinued. Actually Vodafone Idea has claimed to give faster internet speed in its RedX tariff plan, Which TRAI has termed as a false promise to mislead customers. According to TRAI, the RedX tariff plan lacks transparency.

    Vodafone Idea

The notice sent by TRAI to Vodafone-Idea stated that the company’s claim to provide a fast 4G network on a priority basis for fast data to customers is against the regulatory framework. In such a situation, the company’s RedX tariff offer violates the Telecom Tariff Order 1999. On behalf of TRAI, it was said that the RedX tariff offer does not meet the sections of the telecom tariff order related to protecting the interests of users. It also violates the terms of the license agreement.

It had said that the RedX tariff offer is in contravention of specific clauses of the Telecom Tariff Order relating to protection of interests of the consumers. VIL’s RedX tariff offer “violates the terms of license agreement” and is not consistent with stipulated technical specifications, Trai had said adding that it also did not comply with the service quality norms.

    Vodafone Idea

TRAI had been examining Vodafone Idea’s priority plan RedX and Bharti Airtel Platinum Offering to see if network preference to specific customers leads to deterioration of services for other non-premium subscribers or violates any norms. Bharti Airtel, however, was not issued a show-cause notice for its platinum plan. Airtel offered to abide by Trai’s views and also voluntarily modified its platinum offering suitably, and hence Trai is not proceeding with further investigation on that.
