Vivo is calling the display on the Nex 3 as ‘waterfall’ screen because the screen blends towards the edges as well
Chinese smartphone brand, Vivo, today officially launched the Nex 3 5G alongside a 4G variant of the Nex 3. The Nex 3 5G comes powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855+ chipset along with Snapdragon X50 5G modem. There are two variants of the smartphone- one with 5G support and the other one with 4G support. The highlight of the Nex 3 is its full-screen design which the company is calling ‘the waterfall’ curved screen.
The screen blends towards the sides and the phone does not feature any hardware buttons. Vivo has added something called Touch Sense which will act as virtual buttons for volume rockers and power buttons. That said, the Nex 3 is based on the Vivo Apex 2019 concept smartphone which the company showcased earlier this year.
Specifications and Features
Vivo is calling the display on the Nex 3 as a ‘waterfall’ screen because the screen blends towards the edges as well. The company has removed hardware buttons on the sides because there’s no room for them, according to Vivo. The Chinese company has added virtual buttons and the technology is called ‘Touch Sense.” As for the display, it’s a 6.89-inch Full HD+ panel with an incredible 99.6% screen-to-body ratio.
Under the hood, the Nex 3 has the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855+ chipset, clubbed with up to 8GB of RAM. As mentioned above, the Nex 3 comes in two versions- 4G and 5G. The 5G variant uses Qualcomm Snapdragon X50 modem and it will be limited to the markets where 5G connectivity is available. That said, the Vivo Nex 3 5G variant may not reach the Indian market and the company may bring the 4G version of the smartphone.
The phone has three cameras on the rear side- a 64MP primary sensor, 13MP telephoto lens, and 13MP ultra-wide-angle shooter. There’s a pop-up module on the front that houses the 16MP front-facing camera. Other connectivity options on the Nex 3 include Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, GLONASS and USB Type-C port.
Lastly, the Nex 3 and Nex 3 5G come with a 4500mAh battery and has support for the company’s 44W fast charging. Vivo even added an in-display fingerprint scanner, similar to many other smartphones launched in recent times.
Pricing and Availability
Sadly, Vivo did not announce the pricing of the Vivo Nex 3 and Nex 3 5G. However, the company did confirm the phone will be available in the coming months in several markets, including Asia Pacific, Southeast Asia, among others. It will be interesting to see how Vivo prices the Nex 3 and Nex 3 5G. Considering the high-end hardware and innovative technologies that Vivo packed into the smartphone, we’re expecting a premium price tag.
Also, the Nex 3 5G variant may not launch in the Indian market anytime soon, considering the lack of 5G services. But we may see the company bringing the Vivo Nex 3 4G version to the country sometime later this year.
