Vi partners with Nokia to Bring 5G connectivity to rural areas in India

Using Nokia’s 5G solution, Vi is able to demonstrate highspeeds of over 100Mbps beyond 17kms in its ongoing 5G trials on Government allocated 5G spectrum in Gandhinagar.

Vodafone Idea (Vi) has teamed up with Nokia for 5G trials in India. Together, both will offer high-speed internet connectivity. In collaboration with Nokia, Vodafone Idea has achieved a strong speed of 100Mbps in a radius of 17 km in Gandhinagar, Gujarat. Let us tell you that Vodafone Idea Limited (VIL) is India’s leading telecom operator, which provides 5G hardware support from Nokia.

Vi in collaboration with Nokia has successfully conducted 5G trials on the 3.5GHz spectrum band today i.e. on November 10. By which broadband connectivity will be provided in the rural areas of Gandhinagar in Gujarat. In collaboration with Nokia’s solution, it has achieved a top speed of 100Mbps during the Vodafone Idea 5G trial. The Vi uses Nokia’s AirScale radio portfolio and Microweb E-band.

“Accelerated digitalisation over the last two years has led to growing dependency on high-speed broadband and an urgency to connect the unconnected. Vi GIGAnet, India’s fastest network, is enabling users in urban and rural areas, and enterprises, to stay ahead in this digital era. With our 5G ready network and our partner Nokia’s, field-proven solution, we are now working on providing solutions and use cases based on high-speed 5G coverage in rural areas.”

Jagbir Singh, Chief Technology Officer, Vodafone Idea Limited

“Our Fixed Wireless Access 5G solution is enabling service providers, like Vodafone Idea, to extend 5G coverage to remote areas, plug coverage gaps and increase service levels in rural areas. Vodafone Idea is our long-standing partner and we are pleased to support them in successfully testing 5G for delivering high-speed connectivity in rural areas.”

Sanjay Malik, Senior Vice President and Head of India Market, Nokia

VI Achieved Fastest Speed Compared to Jio and Airtel

Even before this, Vi had done 5G trials in collaboration with Nokia. At that time, Vi has achieved the fastest speed of 9.85 Gbps, which is about 10 times more than the 5G speed of Jio and Airtel. In such a situation, the question arises whether Reliance Jio is lagging behind in terms of high-speed 5G connectivity.

But it is not so, it is just an early stage, where all the companies are doing 5G testing on different frequencies and different hardware support. So nothing can be said about it from now on. But it is true that at present Reliance Jio is the leading telecom company in India. Apart from Jio, Bharti Airtel, MTNL is doing 5G trials in India.

Jio and Airtel achieved 1Gbps speed

Notably, Jio and Airtel have achieved a top speed of 1Gbps during the 5G trial. Vodafone Idea has achieved this speed on back-end data transmission. Which means connecting the mobile base station network. This 5G trial took place in Gandhi Nagar, Gujarat. However, where Vodafone Idea and Airtel depend on other telecom parts manufacturing companies such as Ericsson, Nokia, and Samsung for 5G trials. At the same time, Reliance Jio’s own technology is being used for 5G trials.

Nokia’s high gain FWA CPE (Customer Premises Equipment) enables operators to extend ultra-high-speed and low latency 5G connectivity to remote and rural areas.
