Vodafone Idea (Vi) is testing a new loyalty rewards programme called Vi Stars for select prepaid customers. The programme can give users reward points when they recharge, while the accumulated Stars may be used toward future payments.
Vi Stars Appears During Prepaid Recharge
The Vi Stars option has been spotted on the payment page for a Rs 299 prepaid recharge. In the example reviewed by an online news post, the customer was offered 44 Vi Stars and the interface displayed an “Earn 2X rewards” message.
The rewards option appears under an “Unlock Instant Savings” section, where users can apply the available reward before completing the recharge. The payment screen also includes a “Pay with Rewards” option, indicating that accumulated Stars could potentially be used for subsequent transactions.
44 Vi Stars Does Not Mean Rs 44
Vi has not publicly disclosed the monetary value of a single Vi Star. Therefore, the 44 Stars offered on the Rs 299 recharge should not be interpreted as a Rs 44 discount or cashback.
The operator has also not announced the minimum balance required for redemption, expiry period, maximum redemption amount or whether Stars can pay for an entire recharge. These details will be important if Vi eventually expands the programme.
Vi Stars Is Being Tested With TWID
The rewards experience shown in the payment interface identifies Vi and TWID as the platforms powering the feature. TWID operates a rewards-based payment network that allows participating brands to provide reward points that can be managed and used during transactions.
The “2X rewards” promotion also suggests that Vi could vary the number of Stars offered based on a particular campaign, recharge or customer. It is therefore too early to assume that every Rs 299 recharge will generate 44 Stars.
Limited Rollout for Now
Vi Stars does not currently appear to be available to every Vi prepaid subscriber. Its appearance for selected customers suggests that Vodafone Idea is testing the programme before deciding whether to make it available more widely.
The availability and rewards offered could change during the testing phase. Customers can check the Vi app’s recharge payment page to see whether the Vi Stars option is available on their account.
What Vi Stars Could Mean for Prepaid Customers
A loyalty programme would give Vi another way to encourage customers to complete recharges through its own payment platform. Unlike a one-time cashback promotion, an accumulating rewards balance could encourage repeat transactions if customers can eventually use the Stars to reduce the cost of future recharges.
However, the programme’s actual value will depend on Vi’s final conversion rate, redemption limits and validity rules. Until those details are officially disclosed, Vi Stars should be viewed as a limited test rather than a confirmed benefit available across Vi’s prepaid customer base.
