    Samsung Galaxy Fold

The Galaxy Fold is the first foldable smartphone to commercially launch in India and it comes in a 12GB+512GB storage variant

Samsung has brought its foldable smartphone- the Galaxy Fold to India today. The futuristic device, which was announced at the MWC 2019, earlier this year has finally made its way to the Asian sub-continent. The Samsung Galaxy Fold comes in a single variant with a whopping 12GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage, and it’s priced at Rs 1,64,999. Samsung said the phone would be up for pre-bookings starting October 4 and the shipping will begin on October 20. As for the features, the Samsung Galaxy Fold features two displays, six cameras on the whole and a 4380mAh battery. It’s a unique smartphone we have seen in recent times and glad that it made its way to India. To recall, Samsung postponed the launch of Galaxy Fold by at least four-five months due to some issues, but very recently, it went on for sale in some Western markets for a whopping $1,980.

Samsung Galaxy Fold: Specifications and Features

The Galaxy Fold is the first foldable smartphone to commercially launch in India. The Galaxy Fold has two screens- a flat-screen present on the front and a secondary screen that will be visible when the phone is folded. As for the displays, there’s a 4.6-inch Super AMOLED screen carrying a resolution of 840×1960 pixels and 21:9 aspect ratio. The smaller display is visible when the phone is folded, and when unfolded, there’s a massive 7.3-inch Infinity Flex Dynamic AMOLED screen with a resolution of 1536×2152 pixels. There’s a hinge that keeps both the screens intact.

Under the hood, the Samsung Galaxy Fold has the company’s own Exynos 9825 chipset, paired with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage. There’s no microSD card slot for storage expansion. In India, the Galaxy Fold has dual-SIM support. Samsung is still not planning launch Snapdragon variants of its flagship smartphones in India, which is disappointing.

As for the cameras, the Galaxy Fold has six of them in total. A triple camera setup of 16MP primary sensor works in tandem with a 12MP secondary sensor and a 12MP telephoto sensor. All the three sensors feature Optical Image Stabilisation support. There’s a dual selfie camera setup comprising of a primary 10MP sensor and a secondary 8MP sensor. Lastly, when the phone is folded, we get to a single 10MP sensor.

Other hardware features of the Galaxy Fold include dual batteries having a capacity of 4380mAh. The phone has support for both wired and wireless charging and it weighs 276 grams. The handset runs Android 9 Pie-based OneUI out of the box and the connectivity options include 4G LTE, VoLTE, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS and a USB Type-C port. There’s an in-display fingerprint scanner as well.

Samsung Galaxy Fold: Pricing and Availability in India

Samsung officially confirmed the Galaxy Fold would be available in only one variant in India. And it’s the high-end variant with 512GB of storage and 12GB of RAM. It will be available in a single colour- Cosmos Black and the pre-bookings for the country’s foldable smartphone will begin on October 4. Samsung will start shipping the smartphone from October 20 and the phone is priced at Rs 1,64,999.

The Galaxy Fold also comes bundled with a free Samsung Galaxy Buds headphones and the company will provide one-time free screen replacement at no extra cost. Being a foldable smartphone and the first-gen product, the Galaxy Fold will be available in limited number.
