Reliance Jio and Facebook are working together on the Super Instant Messaging app. This has been revealed in a report.
Popular social media company Facebook, along with Reliance Jio, is developing multi-functional Super Apps. Through this app, users will be able to enjoy many features including digital payment, social media, gaming, hotels, flight booking on the same platform. Only last month, it was reported that Facebook is going to buy a 10 percent stake in Reliance Jio. However, due to the ongoing nationwide lockdown at this time, no official statement has yet been made by these two companies.
Facebook has acquired the instant messaging app Whatsapp from the initiative itself. How successful is this app coming in the joint venture of Facebook and Jio, it will be known only after the launch of this app. It is believed that the Super App can be introduced in the challenge of the Chinese We App. Both companies are working on the development of this app. With the help of this app, users will be able to do many types of work on the same platform.
Currently, there is a coronavirus lockdown across the country due to which the development of this new app may take longer. According to ET’s report, this Super App can be used to do many things. Through this one app, users will be able to connect with their friends on social media. Also, this app will help users in shopping online. Not only this, but this app will also be helpful in booking travel, flights, etc. With the help of this app, facility like digital payment can also be availed.
According to the report, both Facebook and Reliance Jio companies together can create a new company. This app can be launched under this company. Recently a multi-functional app by the name of Houseparty has become quite popular. On this app, you can play online games with your friends and acquaintances. At the same time, one can connect through it.
The app would be based on the likes of the Chinese super-app WeChat and the duo would rope in their funding, technical strength, and domain expertise for the project. Facebook’s Whatsapp platform and its user base are also going to be leveraged for the same.
The deal stands important for Reliance as it would serve the company with dual benefits — getting B2C engagement for its customer business along with achieving group insights on its users’ spending habits. Whether the deal is going to take a form of partnership or a collaboration, or a new company will be created in which both the players will invest, or Facebook will invest in Reliance Jio and Reliance retail — clarity on all these aspects is yet to be decided.
Meanwhile, Reliance Retail is currently focusing towards keeping its stores running so that consumers get the essential supplies time to time.
