Android 10 update for the Redmi K20 Pro is rolling out in the form of MIUI 10.4.8 OTA and it’s still MIUI 10 so you won’t be able to notice major changes
Xiaomi is now rolling out the Android 10-based stable MIUI 10 update to its flagship Redmi K20 Pro in India. Right on the day of the Android 10 launch earlier this month, Xiaomi rolled out the update to Redmi K20 Pro in China. However, it released a beta version to the K20 Pro users in India and other regions.
But now, the stable MIUI 10.4.8 update for Redmi K20 Pro brings Android 10, barely a few weeks after the official launch. Google released a stable Android 10 update to its Pixel lineup earlier this month which was immediately followed by Essential. A couple of days ago, OnePlus rolled out OxygenOS 10 update based on Android 10 to OnePlus 7 series. So Xiaomi is fourth on the list to push stable Android 10 updates to at least one of its smartphones.
Redmi K20 Pro Android 10 Update: What’s New?
Xiaomi smartphones run on MIUI which is built on top of Android. Android 10 update for the Redmi K20 Pro is rolling out in the form of MIUI 10.4.8 OTA and it’s still MIUI 10. That being said, you won’t be able to notice major differences in terms of the user interface, but there are some noticeable changes, though. We have received the update weighing over 1.3GB in size on our Redmi K20 Pro unit and we noticed some changes.
First of all, it seems like there’s a new font being used by Xiaomi and the text seems bolder and brighter. The status bar icons like VoLTE, Wi-Fi and others are tweaked slightly as well. The K20 Pro offered Dark Theme even before the Android 10 update, however, post the update there are no bugs related to the theme.
Earlier, there was a weird bug which made the text from apps like Gmail, WhatsApp not visible in the notification panel. This issue has been fixed after the update, thankfully. The Settings app has also been redesigned with new options Special Features, Privacy, Ambient Display & Lock screen. Inside the Special Features option, we get to see options like Game Turbo, Quick Replies, Front camera effects, and Second Space. All other miscellaneous features of MIUI could be added under this option.
Right now, the update is rolling out to the Redmi K20 Pro users in India and not the standard Redmi K20. Also, there’s no official info from Xiaomi whether the update is a staged rollout or a full-fledged one that every Redmi K20 Pro user will receive. You can head over to the System Updates section inside the Settings app to check for the update manually.
