Reliance-backed JioHotstar has expanded beyond India for the first time, launching its streaming service in the UK, Canada and Singapore.
JioHotstar has expanded its streaming platform beyond India, launching in Singapore, Canada and the UK as Reliance-backed JioStar looks to build a larger international presence for its OTT business.
The expansion comes ahead of the upcoming Bigg Boss season, which is expected to be available across multiple languages. The three new markets also have sizeable Indian and South Asian communities, giving JioHotstar an established audience base to target as it expands internationally.
The international launch could help JioStar diversify its OTT business and create a new source of subscription revenue outside the Indian market.
JioHotstar Launches New Originals for Global Viewers
JioHotstar is bringing a combination of original programming, Indian television content and movie premieres to its international subscribers.
One of the major attractions will be Bigg Boss, which will be available in six languages. The platform is also adding new original shows and movies, including Ali Baba Aur Chaalis Bhoot, Prince of Mollywood, Part Timers and The Court.
JioHotstar will also introduce a new game-show format called India Ka Top 1 Percent, which will be hosted by actor Anil Kapoor.
Alongside its new productions, the platform will continue offering popular Indian television shows from its existing content library. These include Splitsvilla, MTV Hustle, Khatron Ke Khiladi, Roadies and Koffee With Karan.
The movie catalogue will also include titles such as Jab We Met, 12th Fail, Dhurandhar and Chhichhore, giving international subscribers access to a mix of established and newer Indian content.
JioHotstar Subscription Price in the UK
In the UK, JioHotstar is offering quarterly and annual subscription options. The quarterly plan is priced at GBP 19.99, while the annual subscription costs GBP 69.99.
The pricing puts JioHotstar directly into the competitive international streaming market, although its primary differentiation will be its focus on Indian entertainment and regional-language programming.
The UK is also one of the largest overseas markets for Indian-origin audiences, making it a strategically important destination for the platform’s international expansion.
JioHotstar Subscription Price in Canada
In Canada, the quarterly JioHotstar subscription is priced at CAD 19.99, while the annual plan costs CAD 49.99.
The Canadian market has a significant Indian-origin population and strong demand for Indian television, cricket and movie content. JioHotstar can therefore use its existing Indian content ecosystem to target viewers who are already familiar with the platform’s programming.
The relatively lower annual pricing compared with the UK could also help the service attract longer-term subscribers in Canada.
JioHotstar Subscription Price in Singapore
JioHotstar is also launching in Singapore, where the quarterly subscription costs SGD 29.98 and the annual plan is priced at SGD 69.98.
Singapore is another important overseas market for Indian entertainment because of its sizeable Indian community and strong digital streaming adoption.
The availability of regional-language programming and popular Indian television franchises could help JioHotstar establish an initial subscriber base without having to build an entirely new content ecosystem for the market.
JioHotstar Begins Its Global OTT Expansion
The launch in the UK, Canada and Singapore marks an important step in JioHotstar’s evolution from an India-focused streaming platform into an international OTT service.
The three markets give JioHotstar access to audiences that are already familiar with Indian television, movies and regional-language entertainment. This could make the international expansion easier than entering markets where Indian content has comparatively limited demand.
However, building a meaningful international streaming business will require more than simply making the existing Indian catalogue available overseas. JioHotstar will need to maintain a steady pipeline of new content, deliver competitive pricing and continue improving the overall streaming experience.
For JioStar, international subscriptions could eventually become another growth opportunity alongside its large domestic OTT and television businesses.
The initial expansion into Singapore, Canada and the UK is therefore likely to be viewed as the first phase of a broader international strategy. If JioHotstar gains sufficient traction in these markets, the platform could consider entering additional countries with significant Indian and South Asian audiences.
