Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) has announced a major upgrade for its media and entertainment business at the 49th Annual General Meeting (AGM). JioHotstar is rolling out a suite of generative AI and interactive features designed to change how users create, watch, and interact with digital content.

The announcement highlights the massive consolidation of Reliance’s unified media ecosystem, which now brings together JioStar, Jio Studios, Network18, and JioHotstar into India’s most powerful entertainment block.

How the JioHotstar GenAI Media Studio Changes Content Creation

Unveiled by Reliance Jio Infocomm Chairman Akash Ambani, the JioHotstar GenAI Media Studio (also known as JAMS) is an end-to-end, AI-native content production pipeline. Built specifically for “Bharat” and global creators, it acts as a unified hub that integrates generative AI throughout the entire creative lifecycle.

Instead of facing traditional production bottlenecks, content creators can use the studio to manage:

    • Ideation & Storytelling: Script building and concept brainstorming driven by localized AI.
    • Multimodal Assets: High-quality image generation and audio creation tailored to Indian regional contexts.
    • Video Production Workflows: Automated tools that streamline video editing and rendering at scale.

To ensure professional-grade visual consistency on the main app, JioHotstar has even deployed a specialized AI validation framework to eliminate character deformities and stabilize facial identities across scenes.

Catch Up Fast with the New AI Snapshot Feature

Missing episodes of your favorite series will no longer require hours of catching up. JioHotstar is launching AI Snapshot, an automated, personalized narrative feature.

The tool acts as an intelligent recap engine. It automatically scans a program, stitches together the most crucial plot highlights based on your viewing history, and delivers a quick, customized narrative summary. This lets you get up to speed in seconds without having to watch full back-episodes.

Shop While You Stream with Content Commerce

In a major push toward interactive viewing, JioHotstar is introducing Content Commerce, an embedded marketplace running directly inside the video player.

This feature allows users to buy merchandise, accessories, or products featured in their favorite movies or shows without minimizing or exiting the streaming app.

Evolution of In-App Commerce: This feature expands on Reliance’s successful initial tests, such as its partnership with Swiggy during the IPL season, which allowed millions of cricket fans to order food directly through live match overlays.

    Watch More Together with Multiview

For sports fans and heavy news consumers, JioHotstar has introduced Multiview. This tool lets users stream multiple live video feeds at the same time on a single screen. You can position sports, entertainment, or breaking news channels side-by-side, removing the need to constantly flip back and forth between different streams.

    JioHotstar Dominates the Digital Landscape

The AI updates drop at a time when Reliance’s media arm is operating at an unprecedented scale in India. The company shared key milestones defining its current digital footprint:

    Milestone MetricCurrent Scale & Achievement
Monthly Active Users (MAUs)JioHotstar averaged 451 million active users over the year.
Total App DownloadsFirst Indian paid OTT platform to cross 1 billion downloads.
Connected TV ReachActively available on 99% of all smart TVs across India.
Live Concurrency RecordHit an all-time global record of 72.5 million concurrent viewers during the T20 World Cup.
    What is JAMS on JioHotstar?

JAMS stands for JioStar GenAI Media Studio. It is an AI-native content creation platform that assists creators with story ideation, script writing, image generation, audio creation, and full video production workflows.

How does the JioHotstar AI Snapshot feature work?

AI Snapshot is a “personal story engine” that automatically stitches together key moments from missed content to create a personalized, shortened recap. This saves you from watching entire previous episodes.

Can I buy products directly while watching videos on JioHotstar?

Yes. The new Content Commerce feature integrates a marketplace directly inside the player interface, letting you buy items or merchandise featured on-screen without exiting the video stream.

What is the Multiview feature on JioHotstar?

Multiview allows viewers to watch multiple live video feeds—such as different angles of a sports match, news channels, or entertainment feeds—side-by-side on a single screen simultaneously.
