Reliance Jio’s JioAirFiber service has surpassed 14 million subscribers, reinforcing its position as the primary growth engine for the company’s fixed broadband business.
According to Reliance Industries Limited’s (RIL) Q1 FY27 financial results, JioAirFiber contributed more than 75 percent of the company’s fixed broadband subscriber additions over the past 12 months, highlighting the growing adoption of fixed wireless access (FWA) services across India.
Jio’s Broadband Base Reaches 28.6 Million
Reliance Jio ended June 2026 with a total fixed broadband subscriber base of 28.6 million.
During the last 12 months, the company added approximately 8.6 million new broadband subscribers. Based on the figures shared by Reliance, JioAirFiber alone contributed more than 6.45 million of these net additions.
As a result, JioAirFiber now accounts for nearly half of Jio’s total broadband customer base, underscoring its growing importance in the company’s home broadband strategy.
Jio Secures Over 43% Broadband Market Share
Reliance said it now holds more than 43 percent market share in India’s fixed broadband segment.
The subscriber base includes customers connected through both:
- JioFiber (fiber-to-the-home broadband)
- JioAirFiber (fixed wireless broadband)
The company attributed this growth to its proprietary fixed wireless technology platform, which has enabled rapid broadband expansion without relying solely on physical fiber deployment.
Fixed Wireless Access Continues to Drive Growth
Unlike conventional fiber broadband, JioAirFiber delivers high-speed internet using Jio’s nationwide 5G wireless network instead of extending fiber directly to every customer premise.
This approach allows faster deployment, particularly in areas where laying fiber infrastructure is challenging or time-consuming.
Although Reliance did not disclose separate quarterly subscriber additions for JioFiber and JioAirFiber, the company confirmed that AirFiber accounted for more than three-fourths of broadband additions over the past year.
Mobile and 5G Subscriber Growth Remains Strong
Alongside broadband expansion, Reliance Jio continued to grow its mobile business during Q1 FY27.
The telecom operator:
- Added 8.9 million mobile subscribers
- Increased its total subscriber base to 533.3 million
- Expanded its 5G subscriber base to approximately 285 million
- Improved monthly churn to 1.6 percent
Reliance also reported that 5G network traffic is now around 1.5 times higher than data traffic carried on its 4G network, reflecting growing adoption of next-generation services.
Data Consumption and ARPU Continue to Rise
Jio’s network handled 69.4 billion GB of data traffic during the quarter, representing a 26.9 percent year-on-year increase.
Average monthly data usage reached 43.7GB per subscriber, driven by increasing demand for streaming, gaming and cloud-based services.
The company also reported an Average Revenue Per User (ARPU) of Rs 215.6, up from Rs 214 in the previous quarter and Rs 208.8 a year earlier.
According to Reliance, the improvement was supported by a stronger subscriber mix and seasonal demand, although promotional offers for fixed broadband customers partly moderated the increase.
Digital Services Deliver Faster Revenue Growth
Jio Platforms continued to record healthy financial performance during Q1 FY27.
Key financial highlights include:
- Gross Revenue: Rs 45,961 crore (up 12% YoY)
- Revenue from Operations: Rs 39,173 crore (up 11.8% YoY)
- EBITDA: Rs 20,865 crore (up 15.1% YoY)
- EBITDA Margin: 53.3%
- Profit After Tax: Rs 7,764 crore (up 9.2% YoY)
Digital services revenue increased by 20 percent year-on-year, outpacing the 11 percent growth recorded by the connectivity business. Growth was driven by cloud computing, content services, Internet of Things (IoT) solutions and managed enterprise services.
Outlook
JioAirFiber has emerged as a major contributor to Reliance Jio’s broadband expansion strategy, accounting for the majority of new broadband connections over the past year. With over 14 million subscribers, a 43 percent-plus market share in fixed broadband and strong growth across mobility and 5G services, Reliance Jio continues to strengthen its leadership in India’s digital connectivity market.
