Apple will release iOS 27 on September 14, bringing new Siri AI, Liquid Glass customisation and other features to supported iPhones.
Apple has officially confirmed the iOS 27 release date. The next-generation iPhone software will be available to compatible iPhone users from September 14, 2026, following months of developer and public beta testing.
The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, unveiled at Apple’s September 9 event, already run iOS 27 out of the box. The wider rollout will begin on September 14 for supported iPhone models.
iOS 27 Release Date Is September 14
Apple has confirmed that iOS 27 will become available to the public on Monday, September 14. The update has been tested through developer and public beta releases ahead of the stable rollout.
The release comes alongside Apple’s latest generation of software updates across its ecosystem. For iPhone users, iOS 27 brings a redesigned experience, new customisation options and a major expansion of Apple Intelligence features.
Apple’s new iPhone 18 Pro models are the first iPhones to ship with the stable version of iOS 27. The devices were announced on September 9 and will go on sale in India from September 18, although the software update itself will arrive for existing compatible iPhones several days earlier.
iOS 27 Compatible iPhones
Apple has retained broad device compatibility for iOS 27. The update supports the same core generation of iPhones that could run iOS 26, extending support back to the iPhone 11 series.
The compatible models include the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max, along with the iPhone 12, iPhone 13, iPhone 14, iPhone 15, iPhone 16 and iPhone 17 families. The iPhone SE 2nd generation and newer models are also supported.
Apple’s official compatibility list also includes the new iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max and iPhone Duo.
iOS 27 Brings Major Siri AI Upgrade
One of the biggest changes in iOS 27 is the new Siri AI experience. Apple is bringing a more capable version of Siri with improved understanding and greater integration across the iPhone experience.
However, not every iPhone that receives iOS 27 will get all of its AI features. The most advanced Apple Intelligence capabilities require newer hardware, with Siri AI features focused on compatible newer-generation devices.
This means an older iPhone can receive iOS 27 while still offering a different feature set from an iPhone 18 Pro or other Apple Intelligence-compatible models.
New Liquid Glass and Customisation Features
iOS 27 also expands Apple’s Liquid Glass interface introduced with the previous generation of software. Apple is adding more controls over the visual appearance of the interface, including an opacity adjustment that lets users choose between a clearer and more frosted look.
The update also introduces redesigned icons for several built-in apps, larger widget options and additional Lock Screen customisation. Users can also adjust separate volume controls for different types of system sounds.
Apple is also bringing further improvements to apps and services across iOS 27, including enhanced Maps capabilities, new Home features and additional Apple Intelligence-powered functions.
When Will Your iPhone Get iOS 27?
The stable iOS 27 rollout begins on September 14. Compatible iPhone users will be able to check for the update through Settings > General > Software Update once Apple makes it available.
The update is particularly significant for owners of older supported iPhones because Apple has continued to maintain compatibility as far back as the iPhone 11. However, the availability of iOS 27 does not mean every supported iPhone will receive every new feature.
For users considering an upgrade, the difference will largely come down to hardware-dependent features, particularly Apple Intelligence and the newest Siri capabilities.
