Social media app Instagram is soon going to levy subscription charges for exclusive content. Creators will benefit the most from this. Users in India will have to pay a subscription charge of Rs 89 per month to watch exclusive content.

Instagram has been one of the most popular social media platforms for influencers and content creators, especially after India banned TikTok. Now, the photo-sharing platform is nearing the launch of its subscription model, wherein users may have to pay to see Stories or access other content from creators. The news is seemingly confirmed with “Instagram Subscriptions” listed on the App Store under in-app purchases.

In India, the App Store listing for the social media app shows Rs 89 monthly charges for “Instagram Subscriptions”, which wasn’t there before. Earlier, the App Store listing for Instagram only included badges as in-app purchases starting at Rs 89 to Rs 449.

Its users will get to watch live videos and stories after purchasing the subscription. Not only this, but users will also be able to send messages to creators. Now talking about the creators, the creators will benefit a lot from the subscription feature. Creators will get a separate tab on the platform, in which they will get information about which member’s subscription is active and any has expired. Along with this, creators will also be able to keep the subscription name according to their own.

Having said this, the social media platform introduced link stickers last month. Through this feature, users will be able to share the link by putting stickers in their stories. This feature has been released for all users. Apart from this, the company is also working on customized stickers. Under this, users will be able to share stickers by themselves. However, no information has been given regarding the launch of Customize Sticker.

Instagram head Adam Mosseri, earlier this year, dropped a few hints that the platform was exploring a subscription model for content creators. Instagram isn’t the first to jump to the subscription bandwagon, as Twitter has already launched Twitter Blue, its version of subscriptions.

The upcoming subscription model may help creators and influencers charge followers for exclusive content. This would also open a front for creators to showcase their best work and keep a price tag for real followers to watch or experience. Earlier this year, the Instagram head also hinted about building a marketplace for NFTs.
