Airtel’s 5G trial delivered a peak speed of over 1Gbps in the Gurgaon Cyber Hub area. The telco is operating in the middle band spectrum of 3500 Mhz and is running on gear from Ericsson.
Telecom operators Bharti Airtel and Ericsson on Monday conducted a live demo of 5G trial at Cyber Hub in Gurugram. During this time the top speed of 1Gbps of telecom companies was achieved. Ericsson confirmed in this matter. Ericsson said that a live trial of 5G was done on its behalf on the Bharti Airtel network. According to the source, Airtel has trialed the 5G network on the 500 MHz band. According to the rules of the Department of Telecom, Airtel had achieved a top speed of 1Gbps.
Bharti Airtel Records 1Gbps 5G Speed
Under the new development, the entire 4K movie can be downloaded in less than a minute. Airtel has conducted 5G trials in Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Kolkata and Bangalore on 3500 MHz, 28 GHz and 700 MHz spectrum bands. Telecom Department has allocated spectrum in the country for 5G trials last month. This trial was conducted at many places in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Gujarat, Hyderabad.
The trial delivered a peak speed of over 1Gbps, according to a report by ET Telecom. The report notes that Airtel has been allotted the 5G trial spectrum in 3500 MHz, 28 GHz and 700 MHz. Reliance Jio and Vodafone Idea (Vi) have been allotted spectrums in the 700 MHz, 3.5 GHz and 26 GHz bands. The applicant TSPs include Airtel, Reliance Jio, Vodafone Idea and MTNL.
Airtel is working with Ericson 5G network gear for its 5G trials. Last month DoT gave permissions to Telecom Service Providers (TSPs) to conduct trials for use and applications of 5G technology in India. The TSPs have tied up with original equipment manufacturers and technology providers which are Ericsson, Nokia, Samsung and C-DOT. Further, Reliance Jio will be conducting trials using its own indigenous technology. The duration of the trials, at present, is for a period of 6 months, which includes a time period of 2 months for procurement and setting up of the equipment.
Airtel in the past has noted that 5G will be capable of delivering 10x speeds, 10x latency and 100x concurrency when compared to existing technologies. It noted that in Hyderabad, users were able to download a full-length movie in a matter of seconds on a 5G phone, a demonstration that has underlined the company’s technology capabilities. The full impact of the 5G experience, however, will be available to Airtel’s customers, when an adequate spectrum is available and government approvals are received. Users will not be required to switch SIM cards when the network is available for them.
DOT allocated 5G Spectrum for Testing
Spectrum has been allocated by the telecom operator on 700 Mhz bands, 3.3-3.6 gigahertz (Ghz) bands and 24.25-28.5 Ghz bands. Trial spectrum allocation Spectrum allocation was done by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), when the Department of Telecom approved 5G trials for Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel, Vodafone Idea and MTNL on May 4. However, Chinese companies have been turned away from 5G trials. The Department of Telecommunications had approved companies like Ericsson, Nokia, Samsung for 5G trials. According to Reliance Jio, domestic technology has been used during the 5G trial.
