Apple Rolls Out iOS 27.0.1 With Face ID and Camera Fixes

Apple has released iOS 27.0.1 with fixes for iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max Face ID restarts, camera colour artifacts and an iOS 27 touchscreen bug.

Apple has released iOS 27.0.1, its first bug-fix update for iOS 27, addressing Face ID restarts and a camera colour-artifact issue affecting a small number of iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max units. The update also fixes a touchscreen responsiveness problem that can occur when Notification Centre and Control Centre are opened simultaneously.

iOS 27.0.1 fixes Face ID restart issue

The most notable fix concerns Face ID on the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max.

Apple says the affected devices could unexpectedly restart when Face ID failed to authenticate. Some users had previously reported Face ID authentication failures, freezes and subsequent restarts, making the problem more disruptive than a simple biometric recognition failure.

Apple had already acknowledged that a software fix was being prepared for the Face ID problem. The iOS 27.0.1 release now addresses the issue without requiring a hardware change.

    Camera colour artifact also fixed

The update also addresses a specific camera problem affecting a small number of iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max devices.

According to Apple’s release notes, a colour artifact could appear in photographs captured at 2x under certain lighting conditions when shooting at f/1.48. The wording suggests that the issue was limited to a particular combination of camera settings and lighting rather than being a general camera-quality problem.

iOS 27 touchscreen bug gets a fix

The third fix is not limited to the latest Pro models.

Apple says opening Notification Centre and Control Centre simultaneously could cause the touchscreen to become unresponsive. The update addresses this behaviour, which is tied to iOS 27 rather than being identified as an iPhone 18 Pro-specific problem.

This means iOS 27.0.1 is relevant to a wider range of compatible iPhones, even though the Face ID and camera fixes are specifically aimed at Apple’s newest Pro models.

    How to install iOS 27.0.1

iPhone users running iOS 27 can check for the update by going to:

Settings > General > Software Update

If iOS 27.0.1 is available, users can select the update and follow the on-screen instructions. Apple has released the update as an over-the-air software update.

iOS 27.0.1 is primarily a bug-fix release rather than a feature update. For iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max owners who have experienced Face ID-related restarts or the specific camera artifact, the update directly addresses the problems Apple has documented. Other iPhone users also receive the touchscreen fix.
