Apple could raise iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max prices in September as rising memory and component costs put pressure on smartphone pricing.

iPhone 18 Pro price hike expectations are growing ahead of Apple’s anticipated September launch, with a new report suggesting the company could increase the starting price of its upcoming Pro models by around $100 in the US. If implemented, the iPhone 18 Pro price hike could also affect Apple’s pricing strategy in India, where the next-generation Pro models are already expected to cost more than their predecessors.

The reported increase has not been confirmed by Apple. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has reportedly indicated that Apple is considering a roughly $100 increase for the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, while other analysts and reports have also pointed to higher prices because of rising memory and component costs.

This comes at a time when Apple has already increased prices of several other products, including Mac and iPad models, while its recent iPhone lineup was largely spared from those revisions.

iPhone 18 Pro Price Hike Could Reach $100

The latest iPhone 18 Pro price hike report points to a potential $100 increase over the previous generation.

If Apple follows that approach, the iPhone 18 Pro could start at around $1,199 in the US, compared with the $1,099 starting price of the iPhone 17 Pro. That would represent an increase of roughly 9 per cent.

The reported increase would also put the iPhone 18 Pro closer to the pricing of competing flagship smartphones from Samsung and Google.

However, the $100 figure should not be treated as Apple’s confirmed launch price. Apple has yet to officially announce the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max or their pricing.

Other reports have suggested a wider range of possible increases. Earlier analyst estimates have pointed towards a $100-$150 increase, while another report cited projections of an even larger $250-$300 increase. This wide range shows that the final iPhone 18 Pro price hike remains uncertain before Apple’s official announcement.

Why Is Apple Considering an iPhone 18 Pro Price Hike?

One of the biggest factors behind the expected iPhone 18 Pro price hike is the sharp increase in memory component costs.

DRAM and NAND are essential components in modern smartphones, and prices have reportedly risen significantly amid supply pressures and strong demand from AI infrastructure and data-centre companies.

The pressure is particularly important for Apple because the upcoming iPhone models are expected to require additional memory to support increasingly sophisticated on-device AI capabilities.

Reports have also linked the expected price increase to Apple’s next-generation processor and other hardware upgrades. The iPhone 18 Pro models are expected to use Apple’s next-generation A20-series chip, which has been widely reported to be based on a more advanced manufacturing process.

Apple could absorb some of these higher costs to protect demand, but the latest reports suggest the company may instead pass at least part of the increase on to customers.

Samsung and Google Have Already Raised Flagship Prices

Apple is also reportedly looking at how competitors have responded to the same component-cost pressure.

Samsung and Google have already increased prices for some of their flagship smartphones, according to reports surrounding the expected Apple pricing strategy.

This could give Apple greater flexibility to raise the iPhone 18 Pro price without creating an unusually large gap against rival premium smartphones.

Maintaining competitive positioning is particularly important in the premium smartphone segment. A significant price increase could make Apple’s flagship more expensive in absolute terms, but if Samsung Galaxy Ultra and Google’s premium Pixel models also become more expensive, Apple’s relative position may remain broadly unchanged.

This is one reason a $100 iPhone 18 Pro price hike could be considered comparatively modest by Apple, despite the higher price customers would ultimately pay.

iPhone 18 Pro Price Hike Could Affect India

Indian buyers could feel the impact of the iPhone 18 Pro price hike more strongly because Apple’s Indian pricing is already significantly higher than its US pricing.

The iPhone 17 Pro launched in India at Rs 1,34,900, while the iPhone 17 Pro Max started at Rs 1,49,900. Recent reports have suggested that the iPhone 18 Pro could receive a Rs 10,000 or potentially larger increase in India.

If Apple applies a similar increase to the Indian market, the iPhone 18 Pro could move beyond the Rs 1.4 lakh mark.

However, the final Indian price will depend on Apple’s pricing strategy, exchange rates, taxes, import costs, component expenses and the configuration offered in the country.

There is therefore no confirmed Indian price for the iPhone 18 Pro at this stage.

For Indian consumers, the iPhone 18 Pro price hike could also have an indirect effect on the prices of existing models if Apple changes its usual pricing structure after the new launch.

Older iPhones Could Also Become More Expensive

The potential iPhone 18 Pro price hike is not necessarily limited to the new Pro models.

A separate report citing tipster Yogesh Brar claimed that Apple could increase the prices of both new and existing iPhone models by around $100, potentially from September 8. The iPhone 17, iPhone Air and iPhone 17e were identified as possible models affected by the reported change.

This would represent a departure from Apple’s traditional approach.

Apple typically reduces the prices of selected older iPhone models when a new generation arrives. If the reported increase materialises instead, consumers could lose the benefit of the usual post-launch price reduction.

For example, the current starting prices in India for the iPhone 17, iPhone Air and iPhone 17e are reported at Rs 82,900, Rs 1,19,900 and Rs 64,900 respectively. A hypothetical Rs 10,000 increase would push them to approximately Rs 92,900, Rs 1,29,900 and Rs 74,900. These are calculations based on the reported increase and not official revised prices.

iPhone 18 Pro Could Bring Major Hardware Upgrades

The potential iPhone 18 Pro price hike comes alongside several expected hardware changes.

Reports have pointed towards Apple’s next-generation A20 processor, improved camera hardware, a smaller Dynamic Island and a more advanced display. The Pro models are also expected to retain premium screen sizes while receiving internal improvements.

A variable-aperture camera system has been among the reported upgrades. Such a system could give the camera greater control over incoming light, potentially improving photography in different lighting conditions.

The iPhone 18 Pro has also been linked to increased RAM and improvements aimed at supporting Apple’s expanding on-device AI capabilities. Some reports have suggested that the Pro models could feature 12GB of RAM.

These upgrades could give Apple additional justification for higher pricing, although the actual specifications and pricing will only become official when Apple announces the devices.

First Foldable iPhone Could Change Apple’s Pricing Strategy

Apple is also expected to introduce its first book-style foldable iPhone around the same launch period, according to multiple reports.

The foldable is expected to occupy a significantly higher price category than the conventional iPhone lineup. Earlier industry estimates have suggested a starting price around $2,500, although Apple has not confirmed such pricing.

The introduction of a premium foldable could give Apple more flexibility in positioning the rest of its smartphone portfolio.

At the same time, a high-priced foldable could make the iPhone 18 Pro price hike appear less extreme within Apple’s broader premium portfolio.

However, consumers looking for a conventional flagship will still compare the iPhone 18 Pro against Samsung Galaxy Ultra models and premium Pixel devices rather than against a foldable.

Should Indian Buyers Purchase an iPhone Before September?

The potential iPhone 18 Pro price hike creates an interesting decision for customers planning to buy an iPhone soon.

If someone is already considering an iPhone 17, iPhone Air or iPhone 17e, waiting for the September launch could carry a risk if Apple actually raises prices rather than reducing them.

On the other hand, retailers may offer discounts, bank promotions and exchange bonuses on existing models around the launch period. Therefore, an official Apple price increase does not necessarily mean every retailer will immediately increase the effective purchase price.

Customers should compare Apple’s official pricing with major retailer offers before making a decision.

For buyers specifically interested in the iPhone 18 Pro, waiting remains the obvious choice because the specifications and final pricing are not yet official.

Apple Has Not Confirmed the iPhone 18 Pro Price Hike

Despite the growing number of reports, the iPhone 18 Pro price hike remains unconfirmed.

Apple has not announced the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max or their Indian prices. The September launch timing itself is based on Apple’s established annual iPhone release pattern and current reports rather than a formal announcement of the devices.

The available reports also disagree on the potential size of the price increase. Some forecasts point towards around $100, while earlier analyst estimates suggested increases ranging from $100 to $300 depending on the model and configuration.

That makes it too early to conclude that the iPhone 18 Pro will definitely cost $1,199 in the US or that its Indian price will rise by exactly Rs 10,000.

What the iPhone 18 Pro Price Hike Means for Indian Buyers

The reported iPhone 18 Pro price hike could make Apple’s next Pro models more expensive at a time when smartphone component costs are already under pressure.

For Indian buyers, the impact could be more noticeable because premium iPhones already command a substantial price compared with their US counterparts. A further Rs 10,000 or larger increase could push the next Pro generation deeper into the ultra-premium smartphone segment.

At the same time, Apple’s expected hardware upgrades, including the new processor, camera improvements and AI-focused enhancements, could provide a reason for some buyers to accept the higher price.

The bigger question will be whether Apple can balance higher component costs with consumer demand.

Until Apple officially unveils the iPhone 18 Pro lineup, the iPhone 18 Pro price hike should be treated as a reported possibility rather than a confirmed pricing decision. The company’s September announcement will ultimately determine how much Indian customers will have to pay for the next generation of Apple’s premium smartphones.
