Vodafone Idea had earlier communicated with the DoT regarding the need to improve the demands for the financial year 2016-17 and earlier. Despite these appeals, the Department of Telecommunications has not taken any action on these requests. During the listing, Vodafone Idea highlighted the presence of several errors in the requested payment amount which need rectification.

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has refused to revise or revise the license fee calculations for Vodafone Idea (Vi) relating to FY16 and FY17, despite objections from Vi. Vi had raised concerns about the amount calculated with its license fee demand of Rs 1,749 crore for FY2016 and Rs 1,524 crore for FY2017, which also included interest charges. Due to this, Vi raised questions on the total license fee amount of Rs 3,273 crore. However, according to a listing by Vi on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), DoT has rejected Vi’s objections and representations.

Vodafone Idea said it had earlier written to the Department of Telecommunications requesting improvement in its demands for FY 2016-17. Sadly, DoT has not taken any action on these requests. In the BSE listing, Vi highlighted the existence of several errors in the amount sought, which need rectification. Vi also filed a review petition in the Supreme Court (SC) to correct these errors, but it is pending.

Additionally, it is worth noting that Vodafone Idea faced allegations from Indus Towers regarding deceptive practices in contractual payments to the tower company. Indus Towers has already informed the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) of its intention to explore legal avenues to pursue Vi for dues of around US$1 billion. Vi has cited its inability to make these payments as the reason for insufficient funds.
