Xiaomi’s two models – the Mi TV 4A Pro and the Mi TV 4C Pro have started receiving the Android Pie update
Xiaomi’s TV lineup has garnered a lot of attention in India, and its popular models like Mi TV 4A Pro and the Mi TV 4C Pro are used by a massive number of users. As such, Xiaomi has announced that it will be updating both of these models to Android Pie before the planned rollout of the update. It is worth noting that as per the previous update schedule for both of these TV models, the Android Pie version was going to hit in September only. But, courtesy of Xiaomi’s hastening of the timeline, the updates have already started seeing for the Xiaomi Mi TV 4A Pro and the Mi TV 4C Pro.
The Chinese manufacturer has also confirmed that all the other Pro models of its TVs will be updated later. Also, by updating the TVs to Android Pie, Xiaomi is setting itself apart in a market where other manufacturers are updating their models only to Android 8.0 Oreo.
Mi TV ‘Pro’ Models Start Receiving Android Pie Updates
It was through an XDA Developers report that we had come to know about the Android Pie update on the Mi TV 4 Pro, Mi TV 4A Pro, Mi 4C Pro and Mi TV 4X Pro, which was announced to happen sometime in September. Out of these models, the Mi TV 4A Pro and the Mi TV 4C Pro are the two variants which have already started receiving the Android Pie updates.
The two other models, Mi TV 4 Pro and Mi TV 4X Pro will be receiving the same update, a while later. Interestingly, this new update will make the Mi TV 4A Pro and the Mi TV 4C Pro, the cheapest TVs in the market to run Android Pie.
Xiaomi TVs Start Receiving Update Ahead of Schedule
If you are a Mi TV 4A Pro or Mi TV 4C Pro user, then you should know that this update is being rolled out in batches and not every user will receive it right away. Only a handful of users will first receive the Android Pie update on their TVs, followed by the other set of users in the next few weeks. Sudeep Sahu, Xiaomi’s Product Manager for Mi TV lineup, told XDA Developers about this new update, “If [an Android TV update] is released in month X, we want to make sure, we work on it immediately, preempt, and try to get the certifications done well in advance.”
It was in July when Xiaomi had first shown an early build of Android Pie for Mi TV 4A. Now that Xiaomi has pushed the Android Pie to its older TV models, the manufacturer is now working to bring the update to the newer models. To recall, the Pro lineup for Mi TVs was introduced in September last year. The company currently boasts of having a 40% market share when it comes to the smart TV market in India.
