Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited is the leading broadband service provider in India with over 10 million subscribers under its belt which would a win-win situation for Cable TV operators and BSNL
BSNL is planning to take on JioFiber by teaming up with local Cable TV service providers across all major cities. According to a new local newspaper report (Andhra Jyothi), it has already finished talks with local Cable TV operators in Vizag for providing Triple Play services to the subscribers. As part of this collaboration, Cable TV operators will deliver Set-Top Box to the customers, while BSNL will deliver landline and broadband services.
That said, all the three services will be provided within one optical fiber cable that will be provided by the Cable TV service provider itself, according to the report. Similar to JioFiber, BSNL and Cable TV operators will provide an ONT device that will act as a bridge between all the three connections. For the unaware, JioFiber is expected to offer a similar Triple Play plan to the customers starting September 5, of which the details will be revealed in the coming days.
BSNL Triple Play Plan: What to Expect from the Upcoming Service?
Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited is the leading broadband service provider in India with over 10 million subscribers under its belt. However, Reliance Jio is expected to surpass BSNL in less than six months with its JioFiber bundled plans. Right now, the company is providing landline and broadband plans to the customers, but JioFiber is expected to provide landline, broadband, and Cable TV services. To counter that, BSNL is said to be partnering with local Cable TV operators in various cities with the first confirmed one being Vizag.
In Vizag, the telecom company has already teamed up with Cable TV operators like Sridevi Digital Private Limited and Saga Siti Solutions. These two operators combined said to have six lakh subscribers under their belt in the nearby towns of Vizag. So with this collaboration, the company is looking for them to convert into a Triple Play plan that will offer them Cable TV, broadband, and landline calling services.
JioFiber is also aiming to deliver the same thing. For Cable TV services, Reliance Jio has already partnered with popular operators like Hathway, Den Networks and it’s Smart Set-Top Box will receive signals from the local MSOs to deliver Television channels to the customers. Alternatively, Jio’ Set-Top Box will come pre-installed with the JioTV app that offers more than 650 Live TV channels which can be viewed through the internet.
BSNL Triple Play Plans Could Start at Rs 700 Similar to JioFiber
Now, you might ask us what would be the pricing of BSNL Triple Play Plan? Well, the report says the government-owned PSU is expected to price the plans something around Rs 700. Right now, BSNL’s landline plan per month costs around Rs 170 and its broadband plan monthly cost come around Rs 440 (on average, there are cheaper plans available too). A standard Cable TV operator is currently charging Rs 200 – Rs 300, so the overall price comes around Rs 900.
But the company is looking to provide all these services at Rs 700, something to promised JioFiber pricing. It will be interesting to see how this plan from BSNL works out. According to our sources, BSNL is initiating similar talks with local Cable TV service providers in various cities as well. In Vizag, the company is aiming to bring Triple Play plan services to the customers before Dussehra this year.
