Using WiFi Zones, Reliance Jio will be able to reduce its network congestion on its 4G network and optimally use its 4G spectrum

The has been a sharp rise in the number of 4G smartphone users in the country. The spike has been mostly seen on Mukesh Ambani led telecom operator’s network as it remains the company which has amassed the most number of subscribers in the country right now. But, as per a new ET report, Reliance Jio subscribers will be able to make voice calls and access mobile data through Jio WiFi.

This WiFi network will be accessible by VoLTE phone users by a software developed by Sterlite Technologies. Not only will this help the subscribers in getting high speed and good quality services, but it will also reduce congestion on the network of Reliance Jio.Reliance Jio WiFi Zones

New Software to Help Reliance Jio Route Network Traffic

Sterlite Technologies, which has developed this new software, is an Indian network solutions firm. This company has developed new software which will be able to route or offload Jio’s network traffic to the nearest Jio WiFi Zone. This would come particularly in use where the Reliance Jio network is facing a crunch because of congestion. A person aware of the matter also spoke about it.

As per this person, If Reliance Jio deploys Sterlite’s network solution to offload its congestion to the nearest WiFi zone, then the telecom operator will be able to use its resource, i.e. the available spectrum optimally. Currently, the telecom operator continues to add around 25 million subscribers every quarter. When ET reached out to STL, an official spokesperson of the company said: “We do not name customers, and let them (instead) determine when to deploy a solution and communicate that to the market.” As of now, the financial details of a transaction if it’s happening between Reliance Jio and STL remains unknown. Also, when reaching out to Reliance Jio, there was no answer from the telco.

Reliance Jio Likely to Deploy 1.5 Million WiFi Zones

There is also another notable fact that Reliance Jio has also tested out STL’s WiFi offloading technology, and it has done so in many of its key markets. Not to forget that it is likely that Reliance Jio could roll out 1.5 million WiFi zones across India especially near housing complexes, stadiums, schools, colleges, public parks, bus stops, government buildings, and tourism spot. This would provide the telecom operator with much-required backing to its 4G network, which could be, at times, facing a congestion problem.

To recall, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has made a change in the regulations last year, thus allowing the telecom operators to allocate a single number to cellular mobile service and internet telephony. Jio’s rollout of this new technology will be based on this new change in the regulation only. Also, the experts are of the opinion that reducing the network load remains one of the priority tasks for Reliance Jio in its push for WiFi zones and it is also the right move now as the 4G data consumption is expected to rise sharply in the coming months.
