HyperOS 4 Features: What’s New?
HyperOS 4 brings changes to the interface, system performance and AI capabilities. Xiaomi is highlighting a new Soft Light Glass visual design, which uses transparency, lighting effects and layered elements to give the interface a different appearance.
1. New Soft Light Glass Design
The redesigned interface introduces glass-like visual effects, adaptive transparency and smoother transitions. Xiaomi has also updated several parts of the user experience, including lock-screen customisation, notification stacking and home-screen folder resizing.
The update includes widget stacking on supported devices, allowing users to organise their home screens more efficiently.
2. Improved Performance and Memory Management
Xiaomi says HyperOS 4 improves workload scheduling, memory preloading and application performance. The company claims that its internal tests show an 8.7% reduction in the total hot-launch time for 30 apps after nine hours of use, compared with HyperOS 3.
It also claims improvements in camera launch and capture times, along with lower frame-drop rates during video playback. These are Xiaomi’s laboratory results, and actual performance may vary depending on the device and usage conditions.
3. More AI Features
HyperOS 4 expands Xiaomi HyperAI with features designed to help users organise information and complete everyday tasks.
Some of the highlighted capabilities include:
- AI Voice Notes: Organises voice recordings into structured notes, with options for summaries, to-do extraction and mind maps.
- AI Speech Recognition: Helps transcribe and organise recordings, identify important points and generate outlines.
- AI Answers: Provides answers using web search and multimodal AI capabilities.
- AI Translate Conversation: Supports translation during face-to-face conversations on compatible devices.
- AI Gallery Search: Helps users locate images in their gallery through search.
- AI Creativity Assistant: Offers AI-powered image editing and creative tools.
Not all these features will be available on every device. Xiaomi says availability depends on the phone or tablet model, region and supported languages.
Will Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO Phones in India Get HyperOS 4?
The published schedule is Xiaomi’s global rollout plan for devices sold outside mainland China. It therefore provides an important reference for Indian users of Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO devices.
However, the company has warned that actual availability can vary by region, carrier, model and development progress. The listed phase should not be interpreted as a guaranteed India-specific release date.
Users should check the update section on their devices and follow Xiaomi’s official regional announcements for confirmation.
How to Check for the HyperOS 4 Update
Once Xiaomi makes the update available for a particular device and region, users can check for it manually.
- Open Settings on your Xiaomi, Redmi or POCO phone.
- Select About phone.
- Tap the HyperOS version.
- Select Check for updates.
- Download and install the update if it is available.
Before installing a major system update, users should back up important data, ensure sufficient storage and keep the device adequately charged.
HyperOS 4 Rollout: What Users Should Know
Xiaomi’s announcement confirms that HyperOS 4 is scheduled to reach a broad range of smartphones and tablets across its three major brands. The rollout begins with newer devices in November before expanding to more models in December.
The important point is that the published timeline is an estimated global schedule. It does not guarantee that all eligible devices in India will receive the update on the exact dates shown. Some features may also remain exclusive to selected models.
Xiaomi users should therefore use the official list as an eligibility guide and wait for the update notification or a regional announcement before expecting the software to arrive.
