Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra: Our Experience Using It as a Daily Office Phone

We have been using the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra continuously for daily office work, and here is how its large foldable display, multitasking and portability have changed our mobile workflow.

We have been using the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra as a daily work device, and after spending continuous working days with it, our view is different from what we would have after simply testing it for a few hours. The biggest advantage of the Fold8 Ultra is not that it folds or that it has flagship hardware; it is the way its large inner display changes how we handle everyday office work on a phone.

For us, the device has increasingly felt less like a conventional smartphone and more like a compact mobile workstation that we can carry everywhere.

The Foldable Screen Makes the Biggest Difference

The first thing that becomes clear after using the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra for work is that the inner display is not simply a larger screen for watching videos. It changes how comfortably we can read, compare information and move between applications.

Samsung has built the Fold8 Ultra around a large foldable display while reducing the thickness of the device considerably. Samsung lists the unfolded thickness at 4.1mm and the weight at 215g, which makes this generation considerably easier to carry than the bulky foldables many users may remember.

During office work, the extra screen area is particularly useful when dealing with documents, emails, web pages and applications that require more information to be visible at the same time. Instead of constantly zooming in and out or switching between screens, we can keep more information in view.

That sounds like a small improvement, but across an entire working day it becomes one of the most useful aspects of the phone.

Multitasking Is Where the Fold8 Ultra Earns Its Place

The real reason we keep opening the Fold8 Ultra during work is multitasking.

On a conventional smartphone, moving between two applications is easy, but comparing information between them can still feel restrictive. On the Fold8 Ultra, the larger display makes side-by-side work much more practical.

For example, when we need to refer to information on one application while working in another, having both visible reduces the repeated cycle of opening one app, checking something, returning to the other and then repeating the process.

Samsung itself positions the Fold8 Ultra around side-by-side multi-window productivity and describes the device as being designed for handling multiple demands simultaneously.

This is also where the phone’s size becomes meaningful for office users. We are not opening the device simply because it looks impressive. We open it because the additional screen space can make a task easier.

    Reading Documents Feels More Natural

One of our most noticeable changes has been document consumption.

Long emails, reports, PDFs, web pages and other work-related material are simply more comfortable to read on the inner display than on a conventional phone screen.

The difference becomes particularly obvious when a document contains tables, multiple columns or information that needs to be compared. On a standard smartphone, the experience can involve frequent zooming and scrolling. On the Fold8 Ultra, the larger canvas gives the content considerably more breathing room.

This is one of those features that is difficult to appreciate from a specification sheet. You understand it only after using the device repeatedly for real work.

    The Cover Screen Still Matters

It would be easy to assume that the inner display is the only screen that matters, but that has not been our experience.

For quick tasks, the cover screen remains the more convenient option. Checking a notification, responding to a short message, taking a quick call or performing a task that does not require a large display does not justify opening the phone every time.

This creates a useful two-stage workflow.

For quick interactions, we use the phone like a conventional smartphone. When the task becomes more demanding, opening it provides the larger workspace.

That flexibility is probably the strongest argument for the foldable form factor.

Performance Has Not Been the Limiting Factor

The Fold8 Ultra is positioned as Samsung’s highest-end foldable, and its performance is designed to handle demanding applications and multitasking without the experience feeling like a compromise.

Recent reviews have also highlighted the phone’s strong performance and multitasking capabilities, while Samsung itself promotes its Ultra performance alongside the large display.

From our daily office usage, the more important observation is that performance does not get in the way of the workflow.

The phone feels capable of handling a working day where we repeatedly move between communication, browsing, documents and other applications. That matters more to us than benchmark numbers because a productivity device needs to remain responsive when the workload becomes fragmented.

Battery Life Is Important for a Work Phone

A foldable with a large inner screen has an obvious concern: battery consumption.

In our experience, battery behaviour has been good enough for the Fold8 Ultra to function as a primary work phone rather than something that needs constant attention to its battery percentage.

That is particularly important because using the inner display extensively can naturally increase power consumption compared with simply using a conventional smartphone screen.

Samsung has also focused on improving efficiency alongside the thinner design, and customer feedback on Samsung’s India product page includes users reporting that the device comfortably handles a full day of heavy productivity. Those are user experiences rather than laboratory measurements, so actual endurance will naturally vary with network conditions, screen usage and applications.

For our purposes, the more important point is that battery life has not forced us to change the way we use the phone for office work.

The Thin Design Makes a Bigger Difference Than Expected

One of our concerns with earlier generations of foldables was always the physical size.

A foldable gives you a large display, but traditionally that has meant accepting a device that feels noticeably bulky when carried around.

The Fold8 Ultra changes that equation. Samsung lists it at 215g and 4.1mm when unfolded, while the company has also redesigned the hinge and strengthened the foldable display structure.

After using it as a daily phone, the reduction in thickness becomes more important than it initially appears.

We carry the phone through the working day, and the device does not constantly feel like we are carrying a small tablet in our pocket. It remains a premium foldable, but the physical design is much closer to what we expect from a mainstream flagship.

The Camera Is Good, But Our Main Reason for Using It Is Work

The Fold8 Ultra also comes with an upgraded camera system, and recent reviews have generally found its camera performance strong.

However, our experience has reinforced something important about this phone: the camera is not the reason we would choose it for office use.

The primary advantage is the combination of display, multitasking, portability and performance. Camera capability is an important part of the overall flagship package, but the productivity experience is what makes the Fold8 Ultra different from a conventional Ultra smartphone.

The Missing S Pen Is Still Noticeable

There is one compromise that we cannot ignore.

The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra does not support Samsung’s S Pen in the way some previous Fold models did. Samsung’s own customer feedback also shows that the removal of S Pen support remains a disappointment for some users.

For users who specifically associate a large foldable screen with handwriting, annotations or stylus-based document work, this can be a significant limitation.

For our daily workflow, the absence of the S Pen has not prevented us from using the Fold8 Ultra as a work device, but it does mean that the large inner display is not being used to its absolute potential for every type of professional task.

Is the Fold8 Ultra Actually Better for Office Work?

After using it continuously for our daily office activities, our answer is that it can be — but only if the larger screen genuinely fits into your workflow.

If most of your phone usage consists of calls, social media, short messages and occasional browsing, a conventional flagship will probably be simpler and considerably cheaper.

The Fold8 Ultra starts at Rs 1,99,999 in India, putting it firmly into the premium segment.

But for someone who regularly reads documents, manages multiple applications, responds to communication, checks information and needs a larger workspace while travelling or working away from a desk, the additional screen can justify the concept of a foldable much more convincingly.

Our Verdict After Using It as a Work Phone

The biggest lesson from our experience with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra is that the device makes sense when you stop treating it as a conventional smartphone.

We do not use it every day simply because it has a folding display. We use the inner screen because it gives us more room to work, compare information and manage multiple tasks without carrying a separate tablet.

The cover display handles quick interactions, while the inner screen takes over when the task becomes more demanding. That two-screen workflow has gradually become natural during our working day.

There are still compromises. The price is extremely high, the S Pen limitation will matter to some professionals, and not every application is perfectly optimised for a large foldable display. But after continuous daily use, we believe the Fold8 Ultra’s strongest argument is not its specifications.

It is the fact that, for the right user, the phone can genuinely become a small mobile workstation. And that is something we noticed only after actually using it day after day.
