Jio has launched a limited-period 10th anniversary offer that bundles an eligible JioBharat 4G feature phone with six months of complimentary connectivity. The phone is priced at Rs 1,499 upfront, while Jio calculates an effective handset cost of Rs 299 after accounting for the value of the included recharge benefits.
JioBharat phone costs Rs 1,499 upfront
Under the anniversary offer, an eligible JioBharat 4G phone is available for Rs 1,499 with six months of complimentary recharge benefits. Jio says the promotion is aimed particularly at helping users still on 2G feature phones move to 4G connectivity and digital services.
This distinction is important for buyers. Rs 299 is not the amount customers pay when purchasing the phone. The actual upfront payment is Rs 1,499, with the effective price calculated after considering the connectivity included in the offer.
Why Jio says the effective price is Rs 299
Jio’s calculation is based on the cost a typical 2G user could spend on basic connectivity during the same six-month period. The company estimates that a user spending around Rs 199 per month would spend approximately Rs 1,200 over six months on recharges.
When that estimated Rs 1,200 connectivity value is deducted from the Rs 1,499 purchase price, the resulting effective handset cost is Rs 299.
This is therefore a promotional value calculation rather than a reduction of the phone’s checkout price to Rs 299.
Six months of recharge benefits included
The complimentary connectivity runs for six months, with 14GB of data and unlimited HD voice calls provided during each month. That works out to 84GB of data across the six-month benefit period, alongside unlimited HD voice calling during the applicable validity periods.
The bundled benefits are what make the effective-price calculation possible. Buyers who would otherwise have purchased comparable connectivity separately may therefore see greater value from the promotion.
Which JioBharat phones are eligible?
Jio’s current device store specifically lists the JioBharat B2 with the six-month free recharge offer at Rs 1,499. The broader announcement, however, refers to eligible JioBharat 4G phones and does not provide a complete list of every qualifying model.
This means buyers should check the offer shown against the specific JioBharat model before purchasing rather than assuming that every phone in the JioBharat range qualifies.
Jio’s device catalogue also includes other JioBharat models, including the V3, V4 and J1, but their current listed prices and offer status can differ from the anniversary promotion.
What JioBharat offers beyond calling
The JioBharat range is designed to provide more than conventional feature-phone calling and messaging. Compatible devices offer access to selected digital services and entertainment features, while Jio is positioning the platform as a way for 2G users to move to a more connected 4G experience.
For users who do not need a full Android smartphone, this makes the JioBharat proposition different from simply buying the cheapest conventional feature phone.
Who should consider the offer?
The promotion is most relevant to existing 2G feature-phone users who want to move to 4G without taking on the cost of a conventional smartphone. It could also appeal to senior citizens, users looking for a simple secondary phone and consumers in areas where a basic 4G handset is sufficient for calling, messaging and selected digital services.
The six-month connectivity benefit also reduces the immediate need to budget separately for recharges after buying the handset.
Rs 299 is an effective price, not the checkout price
The most important point for buyers is simple: the JioBharat phone does not sell for Rs 299 under this offer.
Customers pay Rs 1,499 upfront and receive six months of complimentary connectivity. Jio arrives at the Rs 299 effective device cost by subtracting the estimated Rs 1,200 value of six months of Rs 199-per-month connectivity from the upfront price.
The promotion therefore makes the phone cheaper in effective terms for someone who would have paid for similar connectivity anyway, but it should not be reported as a Rs 299 handset sale.
Jio’s anniversary offer targets India’s 2G-to-4G transition
The promotion comes as Jio marks 10 years in India and continues its push to bring feature-phone users onto 4G connectivity.
For consumers, the combination of a Rs 1,499 upfront price and six months of included connectivity makes the offer more straightforward than a conventional handset discount. The real value will depend on whether the buyer would otherwise spend a similar amount on mobile connectivity during those six months.
For that reason, the headline Rs 299 figure is best understood as Jio’s effective-cost calculation rather than the price customers will see at checkout.
