Google has officially opened pre-orders for its new Googlebook laptop category, with Dell and HP offering the first models powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite platform. Googlebook combines an Android-based technology stack with desktop foundations from ChromeOS and puts Gemini AI and Android device integration at the centre of the laptop experience.
Googlebook moves beyond the Chromebook model
Google first introduced Googlebook on May 12, 2026, describing it as a new category of laptops designed around Gemini Intelligence. Unlike the original Chromebook concept, which was built primarily around a cloud-first and browser-focused experience, Googlebook brings together Android’s app ecosystem with the desktop capabilities of ChromeOS.
The platform is designed to provide native Android applications and games on laptops while also making it easier to move between an Android smartphone and a computer. Google says the shared technology foundation allows users to access phone apps, files and tasks more seamlessly across devices.
Snapdragon X Elite powers the first Googlebooks
Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite is being used in the first Googlebook models from Dell and HP. Qualcomm says the platform combines its performance and power-efficiency capabilities with an NPU for on-device AI workloads, while supporting native Android applications and games.
Google’s initial Googlebook portfolio also includes laptops based on Intel Core Ultra Series 3 processors, showing that the new platform is not limited to Qualcomm hardware. Google says the launch devices have NPUs capable of more than 45 TOPS of on-device AI performance, with a baseline of 16GB RAM across the portfolio.
Gemini AI is built into the laptop experience
Gemini is one of the central features of Googlebook. Google has integrated AI capabilities that can work with information on the laptop and connected Google services, while features such as Magic Pointer, Cast my Apps and Rambler are designed to assist with everyday tasks.
Cast my Apps allows supported Android phone applications to be used on the laptop, while other Gemini features are designed to surface information from areas such as email, calendars and on-screen content.
Five Googlebook models announced
Google’s initial lineup includes models from Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP and Lenovo. The company says the new laptops start at $899, with pre-orders now open and retail availability beginning in October in the first markets.
Google is positioning the category as a premium laptop platform rather than a direct continuation of the low-cost Chromebook segment. The company is also promising regular Googlebook OS updates for up to 10 years.
Android phone integration is a major focus
Googlebook is designed primarily around users who already use Android devices. The shared platform is intended to reduce the separation between smartphones and laptops, allowing supported apps and tasks to move between devices.
For Qualcomm-powered models, Snapdragon X Elite also brings connectivity and AI capabilities developed for the Snapdragon PC platform. Qualcomm says Dell and HP are the first manufacturers bringing Snapdragon X Elite-powered Googlebooks to market.
