Reliance Jio is continuing to offer one of its lowest-cost ways for eligible prepaid users to access unlimited 5G data. The company’s Rs 51 True Unlimited Upgrade voucher provides unlimited 5G data along with 3GB of additional 4G data, allowing customers on eligible base plans to upgrade their 5G benefits without changing their existing recharge.
The Rs 51 voucher is not a newly launched plan. Jio introduced the True Unlimited Upgrade range in July 2024 after changing the eligibility criteria for unlimited 5G. The latest development is the addition of 3GB of 4G data to the Rs 51 voucher, making the upgrade more useful for customers who occasionally move outside Jio’s 5G coverage.
Jio Rs 51 Plan: What You Get
The Rs 51 Jio 5G upgrade voucher is designed for prepaid customers whose existing daily-data plan does not already qualify for unlimited 5G.
Under the current offering, the voucher provides unlimited 5G data together with 3GB of 4G data. The validity follows the customer’s existing eligible base plan rather than creating a separate long-term validity period.
This means customers do not need to replace their existing recharge simply to obtain the unlimited 5G benefit. Instead, the Rs 51 voucher works as an upgrade layered on top of an eligible active plan.
Who Can Use the Rs 51 5G Upgrade?
The Rs 51 voucher is aimed at customers using eligible Jio prepaid plans with lower daily-data allowances. When Jio introduced the True Unlimited Upgrade range in 2024, the Rs 51 option was designed for customers on 1GB/day and 1.5GB/day plans who otherwise did not receive unlimited 5G as a base benefit.
Customers should check the eligibility shown in the MyJio app before recharging because Jio’s prepaid plan rules and availability can change.
The upgrade also requires a compatible 5G smartphone and access to Jio’s 5G network. The Rs 51 recharge itself does not create 5G coverage where the network is unavailable.
Why the Extra 3GB 4G Data Matters
The addition of 3GB of 4G data makes the Rs 51 voucher more practical for customers who move between 5G and 4G coverage.
Unlimited 5G data applies when the customer is connected to a compatible Jio 5G network. When a 5G connection is unavailable, the customer’s normal 4G data allowance is used instead. The additional 3GB included with the Rs 51 voucher therefore provides a small data cushion for locations where 5G connectivity is unavailable.
This is particularly relevant for users who travel between cities, towns and areas where Jio’s 5G network availability can vary.
How Jio’s Rs 51 Upgrade Works
The concept is relatively simple. A customer first needs an eligible active Jio prepaid base plan. The Rs 51 voucher can then be used to add the unlimited 5G benefit to that plan.
The voucher does not replace the underlying recharge. Instead, it upgrades the customer’s access to 5G while retaining the validity of the qualifying base plan.
For example, a customer on an eligible monthly 1.5GB/day plan can use the Rs 51 upgrade rather than immediately moving to a more expensive plan that includes unlimited 5G as a standard benefit.
Rs 51 Plan Is Not a Standalone 5G Recharge
One important point is that the Rs 51 voucher should not be confused with a standalone monthly 5G plan.
Customers still need an active qualifying base recharge. The Rs 51 amount is effectively an add-on for upgrading 5G access.
Jio introduced three True Unlimited Upgrade vouchers in 2024, priced at Rs 51, Rs 101 and Rs 151. They offered 3GB, 6GB and 9GB of additional 4G data respectively, along with unlimited 5G access for eligible users.
The Rs 51 option remains the entry point in that upgrade structure.
Jio Rs 51 vs Changing to a 5G Plan
For customers already using an eligible lower-data prepaid plan, the Rs 51 upgrade provides another way to access unlimited 5G without immediately changing the base recharge.
However, the most suitable option depends on the customer’s existing plan, 4G data requirements, validity and 5G usage. Customers who regularly use large amounts of mobile data may find a higher-data base plan more appropriate, while lighter users may prefer an inexpensive upgrade.
The key advantage of the Rs 51 voucher is therefore its role as an upgrade, rather than its price alone.
What Jio Customers Should Check Before Recharging
Before purchasing the Rs 51 voucher, customers should check the offer displayed against their number in the MyJio app.
They should also confirm that their smartphone supports Jio 5G and that 5G service is available in the locations where they intend to use it. Unlimited 5G access cannot compensate for a device that does not support 5G or an area where the network is unavailable.
The Rs 51 voucher is therefore best understood as a low-cost way of adding Jio’s unlimited 5G benefit to an eligible prepaid plan, rather than as a replacement for the customer’s regular recharge.
With 3GB of additional 4G data now included, the voucher also provides some connectivity when the phone falls back to Jio’s 4G network.
