In early March, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) is anticipated to request approval from the Group of Ministers (GoM), after which a purchase order (PO) can be issued to TCS for the 4G equipment needed for over 100,000 sites. BSNL is projecting a 20% increase in its revenues upon the launch of 4G in India.
Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), the state-run telecommunications company in India, has recently announced its plans to launch 4G services in the country in April. The company has already started procuring equipment for its 4G network, with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) being selected as the vendor for the same.
BSNL’s move to launch 4G services comes at a time when the Indian telecom industry is witnessing a significant shift towards high-speed data services. With the advent of 5G on the horizon, BSNL’s decision to upgrade its services to 4G is a much-needed step to stay relevant in the highly competitive telecom market in India.
According to reports, BSNL has already started the procurement process for its 4G network and has selected TCS as the vendor for the same. TCS will provide end-to-end equipment for BSNL’s 4G network, including radio access network (RAN), core, and transport equipment.
The partnership between BSNL and TCS is expected to bring significant benefits to both companies. BSNL will be able to leverage TCS’s expertise in the telecom domain to upgrade its services to 4G and provide high-speed data services to its customers. TCS, on the other hand, will be able to expand its footprint in the telecom sector and showcase its capabilities in providing end-to-end solutions.
BSNL has been working on its 4G network for some time now. In 2017, the company had signed an agreement with Nokia to roll out its 4G network in select circles across the country. However, the rollout was delayed due to various reasons, including financial constraints and bureaucratic hurdles.
With the selection of TCS as the vendor for its 4G network, BSNL is expected to accelerate the rollout of its 4G services in the country. The company has already received the necessary approvals from the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) to procure equipment from TCS and is expected to start the rollout process soon.
The launch of 4G services by BSNL is expected to have a significant impact on the Indian telecom market. With its extensive network coverage across the country, BSNL has the potential to provide high-speed data services to millions of users in India, including those in rural areas where connectivity is limited.
The move is also expected to provide a much-needed boost to BSNL’s financials.
