    JioFiber Leads India’s Broadband Speeds in Q4 2020: Ookla

    According to the report by speed tracker Ookla, Vodafone-Idea (Vi) has the highest mobile downloading speed during the fourth quarter of the year 2020. In this way, Vi has surpassed Airtel, the top mobile speed provider company in the third quarter of 2020.

    Internet is most commonly used on mobile phones in India. The companies like Airtel and Jio come up in providing internet on mobile and Broadband service. These two companies have the highest number of subscribers in India. But if we talk about mobile internet speed, then both the big telecom companies of the country stand behind it. According to the report by speed tracker Ookla, Vodafone-Idea (Vi) has the highest mobile downloading speed during the fourth quarter of the year 2020. In this way Vi has surpassed Airtel, the top mobile speed provider company in the third quarter of 2020.

    JioFiber Broadband

    Jio ranks third in mobile internet speed

    Talking about fixed broadband speed, then India has been the fastest fixed broadband speed provider in all the South Asian Region (SAARC). However, India seems to be lagging behind in terms of mobile internet speed. Jio was the fastest broadband speed provider in the fourth quarter of 2020. Vi was the telecom company to provide the fastest mobile downloading speeds in the fourth quarter of the year 2020. After this, Airtel’s name comes in second place. While Jio is in the third place in this list.

    BSNL offered the slowest mean download speed (Mbps) over fixed broadband. Hathway had the lowest rating and the lowest NPS. Jio, BSNL and Airtel offer fixed-line broadband service at the Pan-India level. ACT, Excitel and Hathway are fixed broadband ISPs that offer services in a few key Indian cities and metros.

    VI Mobile

    Vi also emerged as the fastest mobile network in India. The graph shows that Vi offered a mean download speed of over 15Mbps. Airtel garnered the second spot with around 14Mbps average speed. Reliance Jio is on the third spot for performance, ratings and NPS. Jio offered around 10Mbps average speed to users.

    “Vi led Airtel and Jio on NPS, but none of the providers’ scores were positive, indicating that customers were not likely to recommend any of the providers,” the report stated.

    VI Mobile Broadband

    Meanwhile, the Netflix Speed Index has released its list of operators that gave average speeds, along with details on countries and regions that gave the best experience. JioFiber has topped the charts in Netflix’s speed index with 3.6 Mbps in January in India. Along with JioFiber, Tata Sky Broadband secured the top position in the list with an average of 3.4 Mbps for January 2021. It was followed by Airtel, Atria Convergence Technologies (ACT), Excitel Broadband, Hathway, and Spectra at 3.4Mbps.

    Maldives top in terms of 5G

    India ranks third in terms of mobile internet speed among SAARC countries. Maldives is the only country in the SAARC region to have an active 5G network in 2020. In this list, Pakistan stood second, Nepal third, Sri Lanka fourth, and Bhutan fifth. While Afghanistan’s mobile internet speed was the worst. Currently, preparations for the India 5G rollout are underway. In this, the names of Airtel and Jio emerge. For this, spectrum auction can be held in the last year of 2021 and in the beginning of the year 2022.
